Has anyone flown the TF FW190 with an ASP FS400?
My FW arrived in South Africa today and I can't make up my mind, DLE55 or FS400.......

I love the DLE55RA... when I want to fly fast I use a xoar 22X10... when I fly scale I use a Biella 20X10X3blade... great motor

Any muffler issues on your RA?

I've seen the threads saying they're problematic... I have two 55RA's, I have a 4 guys I fly with the 55RAs, and I just got back from a FunFly in Arizona (1/8 AirForce) and there had to be more than a few guys I talked to that all love that motor and haven't had any issues... I'm a big believer in that motor!

I'm waiting for Horizon to ship the new Evo 62Gxi (fuel injected - no needles). If they are stable and w/o issues, I'm definitely going to buying those from now on

Thanks for the response. I just ran my first 20cc RA and I would have to say it's the smoothest gas engine I have ever tried. I did employ full-length bolts plus wide washers so the muffler was captured from the back rather than from the inside.

30 minutes. It went into the Top Flite ARF that used to be electric. It's just starting to warm up here but too cold to fly, yet. The engine started easily and needed very little adjustment. I ran it for 30 minutes at around 3k rpm. That's what I do with all my new engines. The plane is about 8 ounces lighter than the electric setup and I'm eagerly awaiting it's first flight. A really smooth running engine!

Will do. I checked the muffler after the 30 minute run. It was still firmly attached and the muffler was solid.

A bit more done. At this point I'm barely following any scale lines, just dressing it up.

Looking good

Are you using lithoplate for some sections (like the area around the nose blisters) ?

no, I thought about using some flite metal I've got laying around but I just don't want to get too involved. Just a little rivet detail and weathering on this one. Gotta get it done and off the bench so I can start my next project, plus the cold weather is finally starting to break so I might actually get a chance to fly it.

How did you manage to get the 'depth' thing happening - optical illusion?

If your talking rivets in the monokote, it's just a little pressure using the rivet tool in the trim iron. I'm about done finally, just waiting on my pilot so I can close up the canopy. Of course my compressor took a crap and I couldn't use my airbrush, so I did everything with chalk.

@Lifer
after 30 flights my 55RA muffler fell apart. I could see a little bit of dark oil depositing around the manifold part which in hind sight was the crack forming at the can. It blew apart finally in flight and I landed just fine. I had the muffler welded together then I cleaned it up and reinstalled it. It has just a couple of flights on it now and is working OK.
As of now I have not heard of any updates to the muffler by DLE but if they were smart it should happen sooner than later to keep up the good reputation and support of their products.

Chris,

Did you bolt it on as provided for by the factory, or did you use longer bolts and large washers and bolt in on with a clamping-type of method?

hi guys

what things do you guys look for in silver solder,

my DLE 55RA is at the post office just had to pay £55 import VAT, it will be delivered tomorrow,

its a bit poor of DLE not to have sorted this. don't the DLE guys test these things properly.

As far as I know DLE has not acknowledged a muffler problem.Several members in our club have had their RA mufflers come apart. They decided to buy an after market muffler made by Bennett. These cost about $40 and have worked well.As for silver solder I use Great Planes brand, I cant speak to composition

Just a few extra ones, the FW190 would use around 10000 or so?I'm not sure..I'll just have some left over for the next project..

Ok - I gather we're not talking 'real' rivets here?

Some kinda stick-on stuff maybe?
