Normally I use full flaps on the Fw. Unless there is a strong head-wind. Which it was on those pictures.
If the head-wind is strong and very stable, flaps could be used, but if it is varying, you may find it suddenly standing still in the air, and then just falling through.
Here is from the same day, but calmer wheather;
The wheels are working fine for me, at least.

Well, I guess I will try some toe-out. I have a slight toe-in and maybe that is the reason for some squarely ground handling? Very gusty day at our field yesterday.
I have the TF P-47, P-51, FW190. I like the flight envelope and the ground handling of the P-51 better than the other two. All three are fun to fly!
My right gear cover must have cracked - it was hanging out during the flight. I need to fix that.

I'm getting ready to put one of these together with the Saito 84x3cyl....what is the predominant opinions on retracts....heard the Robart isn't that good in this model variety....but that the Century Jet is better/higher quality, but may require some wing mount mods? Any advice appreciated.

The problem with the FW190 Robart retracts is that the cam lock retract assembly is plastic and will fail under side load. Eric, Robart Customer Service, explains that you'd want the gear to fail instead of the wing-retract saddle.
I've had this plane since it first started shipping. I've had to replace that plastic retract assembly 6 times do to ground-loop tendencies. I've had the last set I bought for over 30 flights as I've recently learned that this plane needs a smidge of toe-out with tail high... Since the gear is canted seriously inboard in the down position there is an amazing amount of torque on the saddle area. The only modification I've made was to add epoxy and some 1/4 inch rails under the saddle area. and that seems to have been the fix.
I've seen a thread to modify the wing to allow Sierra Giant FW190 retracts which include the scissor arm. I didn't try it but Danny at Sierra does make the best retracts in the business. If I ever buy a replacement TF GS FW190, I'm going to go ahead and try those... they look more scale!
also, I'd like to recommend swapping the stock foam wheels for the 5 inch wheels from Williams Brothers. The look awesome and work great!

Great Thanks....has anyone looked at the Century Jet retracts for this airframe? They are quite nice as well. I looked at Sierra, and their website was weak...I know they make great stuff, but didn't see anything for the TF 190, only a Ziroli Plans 190 I believe....unless that size scale is interchangeable.?

You're not going too..Sierra designs a basic footprint and when they see someone modify an air frame to fit, they won't make a specific set as they know with some work, their existing will fit!
They make three sizes for the FW190 not to include the smaller ESM.

Well, I tried some toe-out but I can't say it made much difference.
What did make a big difference was putting the tail wheel on a separate channel and reducing its throw independently of the rudder. My takeoffs were much better after that change.

For those building this airframe....is anyone using Savox servos? I' ve been a loyal HiTec fan....but I"ve had it with all the twitching and searching for center....the only servos that don't are the new $190 Brushless....I did buy a set and they are awesome, in a 3DHS 92" Edge with DA70. I think their mod# is 9370 and 9380...they are great, but way overpriced....I'm wondering if the Savox are quiet, non-jittery and perform....I've heard a lot of good but now am ready to actually buy some, so doing more due diligence...am ordering a Satio 84cc 3cyl Radial for this, as many of you have....best place to get one? I see Horizon if out of stock again.???THANKS

had me one of the best flying days ever today... 4 flights, lots of fun, some formation, some chasing... 4 greased landings... wow... if they could all be that awesome! woot! pics soon!

Hell yeah! I'll see if I can convince Tim Cardin to come as well... you guys put on a great event... I didn't see any details on the OEAF site but I keep my eyes & ears open for news/details. OEAF is a pretty fantastic group of guys!
