I appreciate the answers about cockpits....I finally got the IFlyTallies cockpit...it is awesome....yes expensive, but nothing else like it out there....same with Sierra Rectracts....definitely worth the wait and aggravation.....they are phenomenal. And their wheels are the finest I've seen....heavy, yes, but not that heavy for a Warbird, and they work and will last.
But I REALLY need help on wing tip position lights. I can only the 3D style lite kits for night flying. Has anyone found a wingtip kit of red/green/white that could be used or modified for this Plane?
Thanks
Also, anyone put in a bomb drop hookup in the belly? how and what did you use?
Thanks, Brad

Considering engine options for the bird - would appreciate some opinions.
I am between an FG84 R3 and an FG60 R3.
The advantages of the 60R3 are that it is... smaller, so it can also be retrofitted to a TF Zero (next bird in sight, slimmer cowl), it apparently has updated inlet geometry (much like the Ray English mod for the FG84) and costs 20-30% less.
Question is, would it be enough for a 11-12kg FW190 (25-26lbs) with a 22x10 @ 6500?
"Enough" does not mean 3D or anything, just able to pull you out of trouble in a messed-up approach and allow mid-to-large loops from level.

Fw190
Have to remember it's not a real 60cc....it's a 4stroke 60....not the same as a 2 cycle 60 at all....the 84cc 4 stroke is more closely related to a 60cc.....I'm building with the 84cc 4stroke R3 and glad I am. Plus you lose the nose weights.

Well; my friend Andy and myself have started in on the FW190. Using the Saito 84cc Radial, and Sierra retracts and wheels.....they are simply a thing of beauty....Andy made the mod to fit the Sierra's in one evening....here are some pictures.

Yes, I'm using the Saito Gas 84cc 4stroke, 3cyl radial. Its probably closer to a 70 2stroke in power but tons of torque. Swings a 23x12x3 Biela prop. We'll be able to completely remove the front nose weights, having replaced it with a heavier motor instead. Also installed the Kiela Ring muffler. Its a wicked sound and power with no additional overall weight.

Hi Bob,
It's Brad here. C'mon you know all 4 strokes lose 25%-30% of their power compared to the same cc sized 2 stroke. So yes it's a 60cc, but doesn't have near the same performance as a 60.
Glad to see you're following this thread. Hope to be ready for your excellent weathering process soon.

Saito 84cc 3Cyl Radial Install / Motor Box mod
We've started in on the Motor Box....Installing a Saito 84cc 3cyl 4stroke Radial, and it requires either rounding the corners or moving the entire firewall back....we chose the latte to maintain all corners for strength. Plus we were to replace the cheap Chinese plywood that splits and delaminates with good US 1/2" aircraft grade plywood. Andy laid it all out in AutoCad to maintain all the angles and offsets for thrust, etc. Looks great and will not fit the Carb and Keleo Ring Muffler with no issues.

Bear - exactly how I am thinking of doing it! (salivating...).
I am curious to see how you will deal with the cooling issues. Opening some side vents on the fuz and hollowing out the exhaust stacks? Louvres on the cowl underside?
Also, what did the mod on the engine cost (you can PM me)? Does Ray need the whole engine or just some parts?
Thanks,
Hector.

Andy here....
Cooling? Not sure we need it
Actually, it will be a challenge, but will come in time. More so than the discharge air, I am working on blocking and directing the intake across the heads. That will be a copy of a design from a previous plane. I will send pics to Brad as I progress. The immediate challenge is using the designed cowl mounts with the Keleo muffler in the way of a few of them. But, I will get it.

If you look ~50 pages back, there is a gentleman from Taiwan who did a pretty good install. He solved the cowl mount problem from behind (access via the gun hood). Have a look - its worth it.

Andy's got the Sierra tailwheel now in and the cowl done. They're awesome. I'll post some pix tomorrow as well and let Andy comment on the build techniques if he'd like.
Some years ago Andy took 4th in Stand Off Scale at the Nats with a midsize Corsair in civilian racing colors of Burgundy and Creme. Its gorgeous. I'm hoping he'll share some pix with you here of his ready to maiden recreation of that same plane using a rebuilt Hangar 9 Corsair and the same 84cc Saito radial. Its amazing and very different.

The FW-190 is definitely coming out extremely well, especially with all of the modifications for landing gear and engine. Well worth the effort, though.
The Corsair is also coming out nice. It definitely takes me back to the 85 Nationals when I entered the same plane color scheme. I have included the original B/W photo of Cook Cleland's plane and the color photo of the current build I am finishing up. Brad and I should be ready about the same time to maiden each plane together.

It's not cheap, but well worth it....it's a different engine afterwards....Ray just recently went on Contract with Saito to work all their new R&D projects as well as do these mods on the radials....the cost was $499, plus the $175 Keleo exhaust....You really need to add that exhaust to get the full effect. You can have Ray just install it while he has your engine vice ordering separately and mailing the exhaust to him.....he has several on hand.

Here are the pix of the Cowl Mod that Andy did....two bolts in the front and two from behind....have to take the wing off, but it's a very clean install. Also pix of the cool Sierra Tailwheel install. A lot different look than the Robart generic tailwheel.

What is the top mount attached to, did you place a block up there to screw it to, or did you cut an access hole through the side of the rudder to bulld something for it to be attached too?
