Anyway im useing robot electric retracts. I put the 2s 2200 lipo and 2 2500 life packs next to the fuel tank. Im trying to set up the cg and even with these huge batterys up front im going to need a lot more weight upfront to get the 5.5in cg

Does this sound right?

What/how did you add weight up front?

I didn't mess with the stock metal plates
I put a piece of ply over the motor hanging off the end of the plate where you'd normally put the ignition and battery to move it further forward...

I was thinking of upsizeing my 2s lipo for my electric Roberts to 5000mha

But I idea of getting a electric starter setup as it would add weigh were needed

I have a 4000Mah 4.8v NiMH for the radio in the stock location (under the air retract valve), a 2000Mah 4.8v NiMH for the ignition on a plate above the motor (with ignition module), and a 3s 2200Mah inside the firewall (wedged in front of the tank) for the electric starter... The electric starter from MileHIghRC ($150 complete) fits the DLE55RA perfect! and I've added no weight to the plane.

Hi Dan,

I asked the same question some posts back. The best solution is to put it behind the Firewall.

Maidened my Würger yesterday, just in time before winter hits us.

What a fabulous plane! Needed 180g of lead in the tail with the big Saito FG-84 up front. AUW is 12,5kg.

Nice an responsive on the Ailerons and Elevator. Both can use some expo. Otherwise an dream to fly. Used 30mm Flaps due to strong head wind but could have gone with 60° too. It will glide forever.

Very very happy I am...

So decided to cut my cowl for engine access and what a job..
As Im glassing and painting my Butcher bird, had to sand cowl before surgery.

Did all the hinges myself cutting brass plates and tubes then soldering, all fits great.
Just need to trim the allen bolts and apply thread locker and move on.

My FG84 will be happy in there. ;-)

Add cut of a cowl from below, it will simplify access, service and adjustment.
Loco3D, one
more question, probes from vibration won't get out?

Reverend, I also still preparing my FW with FG84. My concern is engine cooling cowl cut-out. Could you please advise me regarding area that you open in the bottom of cowl ? Thank you very much, riccardo

I did use the original flex exhaust and routed them out in the bottom. Found my wooden saw and removed all that plastiv fake exhaust outlet and also removed the wood in firewall. This done on both side made the flow very good for the FG 84. Just baffled the cowling inside with 6mm depron foam.

Tested it again on several plattforms. Works perfectly. Do other Youtube videos work for you?

I did the same as affas already posted. Only difference is, my baffles are attached to the engine.

affas, isn't enough this cut! The proceeding stream has to be three times more entering on volume! Otherwise there will be a stagnation of an air stream. I made cut big.

Zadeda,

it is if you concider, that the area of the incoming air affas and I have ist the area between the baffle and the cylinder!
Thats why we baffle the engine!

Partitions between cylinders are made correctly! It isn't enough exit for hot air from under a cowl. Do cut with a side more!

Yah - everything else plays perfectly on YouTube. Except this vid...

BJ

PS - Hmmm...now that's weird. Other vids play the sound ok, but not that one. But only in Google Chrome. I tried it again in IE8 as well as FireFox, and it plays sound no problems.

"Modern Technology"... bah! Humbug!! LoL

Say Rev - you might be the bloke to ask.

Off-topic for this thread, but I'm trying to get some info re a prop extension shaft so I can set my Saito 180 further back in a CMP BF 109 to avoid having to hack the cowl too much.

If you or anyone else has any recommendations, would it be possible to PM me (so I don't clutter up this thread with O/T babble) ?

BJ

PS - the FG sounds BOSS man!

Given the propensity of the FA-180 to backfire & spit props when utilizing glow ignition, CDI might be a wise investemnt if you want to use a prop extension.

I researched a prop extension for the FA-180 & the only ones available merely screw onto the existing prop shaft. The 1st time a backfire occurs, by-by prop extension & everything ahead of it.

It will also tend to unscrew when starting the engine.

If you find anything practical, please share as I would have use for it.
