Thread about installing it; (As with all other engines, you have to get to know it. And read the manual)

An insert would be better. I had Clarence Lee do one in my FA-200Ti. The engine blew out the OEM brass insert for the extra glow plug.

Yes, it is stock out of the box. Just like my FG-57. And FG-33.

Wonderful engines.

You need to get to know an engine. It isnt just a question of starting it up and fly.

Plane's on its feet at last - temporary install of the pneumatics, pressurised @ ~100psi.
Sierra tailwheel install was straighforward after all the posted ideas in this thread (thanks). Used a lite 3" foam tailwheel, slightly bogs under the weight..
Stance on the ground looks scale - I am happy.

.

FG60 on the test stand ready for fire-up. More details on the FG60 R3 thread.

Hey, thanks Bear.

Some mods on the L/G legs: Done away with the stock clip-on gear cover mounts and used brazed K&S tubing. Looks much more scale and is completely adjustable - pics are self-explanatory.

Also used thick copper wire and material from an aluminium Coke can to make a fake brake line.

Finally, additional fake mounting bolts on the gear cover were installed - improves the scale looks considerably

I was just wondering... does anyone have any plans for a set of scale retracts of the TF FW190?

I wouldn't mind trying to make a set on the lathe/milling machine

I just got my Biela 22x12 3 blade spinner for my Saito.

Does anybody know where to get a FW190 3 blade spinner for it ?

Top flite one seems to be out of stock everywhere and I am wondering if there are any other companies that do this spinner for a 1/5 scale FW190 3 blade ???

That looks great!

I was thinking doing the same thing when I get to that point though...
Get some scale stickers for retracts and proper weathering and will look much better ;-)

Thanks Loco. Already on it; I plan to use the Testors inkjet paper for water transfers to print the black oleo plates on, apply some clear on top to seal them, then transfer them on aluminum tape (duct tape) which will then be cut to the proper outer shape and stuck on the oleos themselves. Result should be a realistic "black anodised" aluminum data plate as per original.

There are all kinds of blogs and issues with the Robart....they have real issues, but are half the price of Sierra's.....there is zero comparison in quality and performance.....so it depends on your wallet....You can get the Robart and send them to Down and Locked and they do a few small mods to make them far more reliable than stock....but if you're putting an expensive Saito in the plane, and a lot of custom work and time, Robarts is not the way to go, IMHO only.

Bear

I must respectfully disagree. I have a saito 57t in mine and the electric retracts. the retracts have worked without problem for 2 years.

I have twenty seven flights on my FW 190 with air Robarts with no problems with the gears.
When I built the plane I beefed up the gear mounts...but only a little more hard wood epoxied under the others with larger and longer wood screws going into both. Yes, you have to drill out the mounting holes in the Robarts. I left the center ones over the air cylinder.
I have never removed the sheeting as others have done.
No heavier (under 29 lbs) and I have found Robarts are fine.
I do have a set of Sierra's in a forty pound plane which is good.
So far I haven't broke the plastic blocks out like I have done to my TF-51. More careful with this one.
Put in a much stronger gear....tear up or replace your wing....your choice.
Plus I can get quick repairs which I can't get from the other.
