Thanks for the kind words Gianluca. I will get back to you regarding the Mustang as soon as I can.

Cal, the book is like gold and has been invaluable. I'm considering putting it under my pillow at night to see if I can absorb Macchi details while I sleep! You're name is on the "short list" for a kit.

Chad to remember that you do me the sf-260 when you have time, because you are the only person that can make exact reproduction, such as p-51!!!!

Why settle for a three cylinder Kolm when you can have four! (Those boys at Kolm look like they are having way too much fun).

Fantastic! I'm afraid we would have to go bigger than the current 114 inches to support that monster though. I'm game if somebody wants to bank roll the project!

Hi lazun, thanks for your interest in the Macchi project. I will try and put up some ocassional pics as the build progresses. Still not a great deal to look at yet but the design work is 99% finished and construction has begun on all the flying surfaces. Fuselage parts are cut and construction of it should commence in the upcoming week. I should be spending a lot more time at the building board and a lot less behind the computer from this point on. Current focus is the wing center section which can be seen below being test fitted to an outer panel to check alignment of the wing tubes.

Sorry Ram, no web site for the r/c model stuff yet. Up to this point my offerings have consisted primarily of stuff that I have made for my own projects first and marketed as an after thought really. Mostly by word of mouth. Thus they have been, shall we say, rather eclectic in their variety. (All over the spectrum in other words!) I'm actually trying now to concentrate on detail oriented items, mainly cockpit stuff, since that is what seems to sell the best. As soon as I have enough items in my "catalog" to actually have a catalog I will put together a web site for it.

Stunning model by your father lazun! Love to hear more about it and see more pics if you've got them. Really good, scale models of the Macchi 202/205 seem to be pretty few and far between.

Hi Chad,

Great project, it is one that I have been working to 89" wingspan. I built 2- 1/4 scale MC 200 for FTE in the past using the same set of gear from Sierra and it was a fun project. Good luck.

Regards,

Arturo

Awesome work Arturo. I had heard that Tiano was involved with a couple of MC.200's but those are the first pics I've seen. In fact I was supposed to be getting some MC.202 plans/documentation from Frank but it never showed up. I had forgotten all about it actually! I'm sure it was because of you guys, and Ed Newman, that I was able to get the Macchi retracts from Sierra in a relatively short time frame. Same retract unit, just slightly larger struts and wheels.

Hi Arturo,

One of your Macchi C.200s is now with me out in Southern California. I bought it a year ago from Mike Grant, who purchased it from Frank Tiano after seeing Ed Newman's C.200 at Top Gun. I hope to have it flying sometime in 2013.

I found your build thread on Aeromodelismo Colombia before buying it, so I knew I was getting a well-built airplane. You did an especially beautiful job on the fuselage planking.

The Holidays really slowed me down but the fuse has been started. Below is the firewall/fuel tank box/wing mount portion of the forward fuselage which, along with the wing center section, forms the "heart" of the entire airplane. What you see here stretches from the firewall to the back of the cockpit. That's a yard stick in the picture for size comparison. Length of the finished fuselage including the spinner will be 95 inches. I'm currently putting together a jig for the fuselage so I can hang the rest of it on what you see here. I know it doesn't look much like a Macchi yet but with any luck it will very soon!

The flat plate you see at the back of the structure will eventually be the floor of a fully detailed cockpit.

Hi Jay,

Thanks for your words, I hope you enjoy the Saetta. Ed's has shown that the plane fly like a dream. Please post some pictures of your model during final phases.

Looks fantastic Chad! If I'm not already, put me on the list for this as well. (So where's that Frequent Buyers Club Card Chad?) I have been eagerly awaiting either you or Jerry to release a set of plans for the MC 202. Has Vic seen this? I bet he would love to do a fuselage for this one.

Lazun: The picture of your' Dad's plane looks like it was take at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. Am I correct?

Hi Paul,

Jerry provided much of the documentation as well as a set of CAD format scale drawings that got me started and, in return for his kindness, I promised to provide him with at least a working set of plans for a 1/5 scale 202 which I have not done yet. In other words don't blame Jerry as he is (or was) waiting on me! I'm not sure what I will do in regards to the 114 inch version so far as plans and parts are concerned. Much depends on how well it flies I suppose. If Vic wants to do a fuselage I sure wouldn't stop him! However, I think he will probably be much more interested in doing the glass for a 1/5 scale as I imagine it would appeal to many more builders than the big one.

I will get your Frequent Customer Discount Card in the mail to you right away!

Wow... somehow in my excitement I missed the 114 inch wingspan. That's huge mi amigo! That's a bit bigger than 1/4 scale. Wow! I must admit the 1/5th scale would be more my speed, but keep me down as definitely interested. What engine is going in the prototype? ZDZ inline?

Desert Aircraft had their new 100 in-line at the AMA show in Ontario last weekend. They hope to release it April. They are going to be offering a couple of different exhaust options. At $1,500 it is only a little more than a ZDZ and a lot less expensive than the 3W. Should work well in the Macchi.

Chad, is your cowl going to be build-up or fiberglass?

I've been wondering when DA was going to release the DA-100 inline twin. They showed it at the WRAM show a couple of years ago. Might be a nice candidate for the PCM/ Meister Me-109 as well.

Thanks Jay for the heads up.

Engine is slated to be a 3W-150, already got it setting on the shelf. Supposedly the last one to come out of the factory. I'm a bit concerned about being able to keep the carburetors in the cowl but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Cowling will be fiberglass as will the fairing behind the canopy, the radiator, the forward portion of the wing root fairings, and the aft fuselage "stinger".

By the way, if anybody has any leads on an appropriately shaped 7" diameter spinner I'd love to hear about it!

Not sure of the dm but this is the exact shape of the 205 spinner. It is the closest one I found. You may have luck in Germany with some of there warbirds that have the same spinner as the 205.
