I was over at Chads Secret Model Hideout, which is hidden in the Arizona Desert and was lucky enough to see the Macchi fuse with the cowl and tail cone attached. Talk about impressive. Can't wait to see the air filter on the cowl! Oh I should add the shop is not really hidden, I just like to drive past the driveway :-)

Thank you John. I will be quite satisfied if the 202 comes out as anywhere near as nice as your 205. Maybe we are seeing something of a renaissance in models of Italian second world war types? Speaking of which, good friend Vic Catalasan is currently building a 1/5 202 from the new Jerry Bates plan and is making up a glass fuselage for it. That might stir up some interest in the type. Vic was nice enough (?) to point out that I got the rudder counter balance wrong on my airplane so a bit of minor surgery will be in order. Jerry and I started with the same information and made the same mistake which Vic picked up on during his build of the Bates airplane. Nothing major and I am glad Vic spotted it as, now that it has been pointed out to me, it is obviously wrong. Onward and upward!

Chad. Holy cow. You and Vic are right. Look at the difference of the 202 and 205 counter balance. Your rudder is the 205, exactly. Instead of changing the rudder put the cannons on it and the two oil coolers and call it a 205!!! LOL!!!

I guess it all depends on which version of the 202 you're doing. Some of the later series 202's had counter balances on the stabilizer. Also there were a lot of 205 conversions. Meaning they were late series 202's converted to 205's. You can tell as some of the series III 205’s have fixed tail wheels. This is the case with the two existing 205's. They were 202 conversions.

I am working to fit the cowl plug to the fuselage as it needs to be on there in order to build the wing fillets. A small portion of the wing fillet's leading edge extends on to the cowl and the only way to make sure to get it right is to build them together. Once I had the cowl plug on the fuselage then, of course, I simply HAD to put the airplane together to make sure it actually looks like a Macchi! Here are the results. (Excuse the poor quality. I'm working with a new camera and obviously have not figured it out yet. Which also explains the incorrect date stamp!)

Sorry for the delayed reply John. I was gone all weekend attending the fantastic Planes of Fame airshow in Chino, California.
Not a bad idea, except we already have a spectacular custom made 202 spinner! Plus I do not have the counter balances on the elevators since I am doing an earlier series 202. I don't think any of the early series 202's were converted to 205's, athough I could be wrong on that point.

Vic,
I am so sorry for the long wait on these photos. I got these from my Dad as I did not have them. Hope these help. As you can see in the second to last photo it has a pretty good angle!!
