One battery is good for the receiver. (6V) and a 4.8V for the ignition. I would run a 2200 on receiver and a 1100 or so on Ignition, Even a 800mah would work for the ignition.
Looking forward to your Ziroli build, Need for Speed-RCU, and the fun that will follow with that!
How do I see all the pics in this thread? Also, what servos and what battery should I use in a .60 P-40 for both the ignition and servos? Should I run a second battery for the servos for redundancy or is one sufficient?
Open to ideas and input from everyone! The more the merrier.
Thanks for the help in advance

thanks scale sloper....2000 pack for radio and atleast a 1100 or more for ignition would be fine. Try to keep your weight down. I would go with MH batteries vs Nicads. One battery would be fine for the radio. I always check my batterys before flying and a good habit. Digital servos are the way to go but I also mix standard BB and high torque also as this would be fine. 50oz or more. Back in the day we used standard servos for almost everything and then they came out with those 1/4 scale jobbies that were huge. Today we have so many different servos we have a wide choice on what to choose from. Allot also depends on the flying you do. Flying around scale, you will not need the super high torque used in acrobactic. I have a Sbach 342 1/4 , DLE55 span 98 and it has all the high torque digitals. The rudder alone has a 272 tq. You can always check other threads here on rcu. happy landings............

I've been lucky enough to collect 7 scale P40's in the last few years. 1 Bates 2 Yellows 2 Zirolis and 2 Bryons. All of them are complete and flyable.
Hopefully this qualifies me to become a member of the P40 Brotherhood. There is nothing quite like a climbing slow roll from a P40 after a simulated low strafing pass.

I would have to disagree with you on the digital servos. You don't need them on this small of a plane! It is a waste of money! If buying servos, I would look at the Hitec 645MG servos. They are the BEST all around Analog servos!! I have them on my Turbine Jet!
Don't be fooled into buying something you don't need. NFS, I am sorry and don't want to sound like a Di@#, but he just doesn't need them.

P40 Brotherhood,
I have 7 different giant scale p40's and I know there is nothing more beautiful than a Warhawk doing a slow roll pull out after a simulated strafing run.
All of my P40's are in flyable condition and are either gas powered or in the case of 2 of them use Super Tigers for power. As in the case I think of most warhawk owners
quite often I am content to just look at the planes and imagine what it was like "back in the day". Please sign me up and let me know what if anything I need to do to join.

Capt Dan you're not far from me. I'm further south now but grew up in Demotte.
I picked up a new in box 140 sized CMP P-40 last week. What have you guys used for retracts in this plane? I was wondering if the Century Jet kit for the Top-Flite P-40 would work since they're a bit cheaper than any of the other pneumatics. I'm also open to electric or mechanical suggestions.

Hi gregandhollie,
I am using Century Jet retracts in .60 P-40 build, seems to be a little bit of slop when in the retracted position and no air applied but NO slop in the extended position! Only problem I have run into thus far is having to hog out a bit of the lower spar to get the air cylinder in place. I can post pics tomorrow of exactly what I am describing but with the thin carbon fiber I will apply it will rock solid and STRONG when finished.

gjhinshaw: the piston cylinder on the retracts themselves is what I was referring to and speaking of tanks....the tank that came with this retract set looks fairly small and doesn't fit in the cradle that was die-cut in former F4 and F5. Should I get the LARGE tank from Robart or a different one?

That and I have been reading a lot of down falls with this plane as far as nasty tip stalls, try to stay far away from 13 lbs, and no slow flight....what do you think given? Take into account I have been flying models for about 12 years now and am no stranger to odd/scary flying machines as I have "some" friends that scare the sh*t outta me when they fly models (even after I have test flown their stuff, deeming it ok for flight)...to which I prefer to try stand behind a LARGE structure those days or where lots of body armor lol.
I look forward to this model and hope I get enough enjoyment out of it to want to nothing else but this (fun to build) P-40E of which I am converting to the "M" model.

gjhinshaw....Yes, standard servos will work fine in a 60 size P-40. I have 645MG's also and they all work fine. If you have the extra funds, a digital servo is the way to go if you want to spend the extra $$ for them. I even used standard servos on my ailerons with a 1/5 scale ship back in the 80's before the huge servos selection offered today. Anyway happy landings.

I would like to join as well.
Jaybird
Hangar 9 P-40 with Saito 91 four stroke.
Took mine to a full size airshow "Wings Over Wiscassett" and got the four pilots from the Texas Flying Legends group that was there to sign the fuselage. They were very interested in the model and a couple of them flew R/C as well. Great guys and beautiful airplanes.
Here is a video of their evening airshow featuring a TBM Avenger, P40-K, P-51 and Corsair. :http://youtu.be/W6Y8ec8pxig

Not this one! The next weeked it flew at "Warbirds Over Guildhall" R/C event in Guildhall, Vermont. It made several flights including a WWII scramble with four other planes. It didn't like the grass strip and nosed over just taxiing to end of the runway. I bought the plane at a club auction and did a little work to it to make it ready to fly. I did have fun modifying the cockpit area to fit my pilot and a photo version of the instrument panel.
A short, not very exciting flight video can be seen here. http://youtu.be/rMDFB8_5l2M
