RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
Warbirdracer, Iam using the jtec compact pitts, cost$80, gripes me to pay that much but it works well and all you need to cut out is just enough to get the pipes out. Proper cooling is needed with any engine and you still want enough of an opening to allow exit air. Ihad a little issue with over heating but solved itby creating a duct work from the front cowl openings right into the engine and now itsjust perfect. I highly reccomend reading the gas engines for newbies sticky at the begining of the gas engine forum, if this is your first gaser. Most of the tuning issues many are having is they are trying to use what they leanred abouttuning glow engines and treating their gas engines the same.Sometimes all it takes is just a 1/16 of a turn to make all the difference in the world with a gasser. Ilove the fact I have almost no cleanup when I'm done flying. I'm packed up and ready to leave and the nitro guys are still cleaning their planes

Naval flight officer,
It may be getting too hot at full power and you need more/better cooling. Try flying it without the cowl and see if it still bogs down at full power.
I've been experiencing this in my Kyosho P-40/Saito 65 setup. The engine runs fine w/o the cowl but as soon as I put the cowl on it seems to loose power in flight. I closed up some of the air intake area and drilled a few more holes on the bottom part of the cowl. It did help, but now it just takes longer before the engine gets too hot. I've since cut more out of the bottom of the cowl and went with a TurboHeader muffler and elbow for a cleaner look. I have yet to fly it to see if this will solve my problem.

I have used the testors paints in spray cans on my GWSP-38 without any issues. They are made of polystyrene foam. Try it on some scrap if you have any. Check the solvent on the can, if it's tolulene watch out!I use a piece of builders foam to test on. I have heard that at Sentry hardware stores they can mix latex and put it in a spray can. A guy in our club had it done. You can also get an airbrush and spray latex yourself.

Here is some good information regarding cooling http://www.prme.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=205 It's not always about how big the exit area is but how much your directing the air over the cylinder. Still waiting on the retracts He emailed me last week and said soon. Said that the week before too, but the good thing is I only have $1 invested to pre order.
