More like a slow boat from China, and most likely a slow boat back! Good Luck

Hey if anybody is looking for a good source of graphics for their birds check out callie graphics http://www.callie-graphics.com/airplanes.phpShe did some custom stuff for me and it was very resonable, check out the 2 P-40 schemes she offers, something different from the usual flying tiger scheme. Here is what she made for me using a picture of my mom who was a aircraft inspector when she was 19 during the war.

The TopFlite Giant Scale P-40 Gear nacelles will work on the SkyShark P-40 with little modification.

Darren
Thanks Darren...............I see that they are readly available. Any problem with the TP P-40 being a bit larger plane?

Richard,

I was told that they are a little longer so you might need to cut the back off a little.

Please add my name to the "brotherhood"! My P-40's include my very first plastic model airplane (Aurora) and many Guillows kits in rubber power as I didn't have enough money to buy an engine for FF. I have also had a red box P-40 and am currently working on a 1/7th gold edition kit. It has a Saito 100 and Century Jet retracts. I am still trying to figure out a full cockpit with a sliding canopy!

I will do that! I have pretty much everything to get started. Hopefully it will be done by Spring!

BTW, is anyone doing a sliding canopy? What is the best way to do it? I have seen pnumatic as well as servos but I would like something easy, reliable, and slooow.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_98...tm.htm#9800923 Try here for all kinds of nice details and also for the sliding canopy. Iused rails from HO train track and slotted square brass tube. Manual operation for me was good enough for a 60 size.

Default RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)

Since I am just getting ready to start this build (Top Flite gold ed 1/7th scale), I wanted to do one more thing...

Since it is a kit and not the arf I would like to convert it from a "e" model to an "n" model. The reason I am thinking about this is the same reason they did it originally. It seems that the "e" model with the larger Allison engine had a tendency to ground loop and I have been hearing this from R/C pilots too
"...have to put in a lot of rudder on t/o". My first P-40 was the old Aurora kit from the 1950's - 1960's and I think it would be awesome to try to do one like it. Either that or I will leave it as an "e" and paint it to look like the first 1/32 scale Revell kit from the 1960's (#92). OR I WILL DO IT AS #58 IN HONOR OF THE BROTHERHOOD! As you can probably tell, I was a very young child of the 1960's but too young to get caught up in the hippy craze...

Has anyone else done this and how effective do you think it will be?

Thanks!

Default RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)

I have been making progress with the electric conversion TF 1/7 P-40, not so much with the Gas conversion 1/7 TF P-40. In front of both was a TF 1/7 P-47 build using an E-Flight Power 60 motor, 80 amp speed control, and a 5000 mah 6cell Lipo. The young man the P-40 is going to is stepping up to these aircraft from flying larger foam Warbirds, so I recommended to his dad the P-47 as a great stable platform to advance up to the P-40 with. This is the same powerplant system that is going in his P-40. Concerning the P-47, it balanced perfect with no added ballist with the battery placed where the fuel tank location is. I plan the same for the P-40.

Although the fuselage does not look as if much has been done, there have been some sanding, modifying internal for electric, rerouting control rods, and swapping out servos going on.

Can not upload photos at the moment, will try tonight.

Default RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)

I have the Hanger 9, 60 size P40 with an OS 91 in it. It is a great plane to fly except for the landing gear. I have put E-Flite electric retracts in my other warbirds but they don't make one yet for this plane. I could go air but I am a believer that electrics are the way to go for retracts. I guess Lado makes a good one but they are almost impossible to get. Has anybody heard of an electric, rotator for a 60 sise plane that seems to work well? So many of them have developement problems.

Thanks

Fuse shot of my Ziroli P-40. It has a 3W 85 on it. I am overhauling my landing gear at the moment. No crash damage, just worn parts. Should have been done by now, but trying to complete the other projects first.

I believe Wingspan models do retract that may be suitable for you.I have Lados in my gased CMPRO 140 size P40 and Eflite units in my Topflite P40 and both work very well.

Which EFlite retracts are you referring to? 25 - 46 100 Degree Rotating Electric Retracts?

How many landings do you have on that plane? Mine weighs a LOT....

My Topflite[redbox] P40 is elec power and its light. They are 100 deg 25/46 units with 8 flights so far.
WINGSPAN 60IN so its a little smaller than the hanger 9.
i should weigh it.

I guess I should get into this brotherhood now that I got mt TP Yellow Box P40. It'll be awhile before I start on it but this could be a lot of help once I do start it...
