Bashing the CMP P-40 over to a P-36 Simplified. The original owner carved away the engine bearers to fit a gasser so no 2-stroke/4-stroke mounting. By slicing off the fiberglass nose, I can install a 3/8" firewall or motor box, incorporate a radial cowling and then go to work on the wing.....

Hi Guys,

I just finished my new Top Flite P-40 with a DLE85 up front, Robart Electric retracts and Futaba radio gear. It is a monster with the 85 spinning a 26x13 Falcon Carbon prop. I have 3 flights on it and absolutely love it!!

I hope you guys enjoy the clips and the pic. I did add panel lines and rivets as well as to chalk the model.

Very nice!

Did the cylinder fit completely inside the cowl? Did you have to cut out to clear the muffler?

Thank you!!

Yes, the cylinder and plug fit completely in side the cowl. I did have to cut out on the side for the muffler, however the muffler does not stick out but it lines up exactly with the cowl. The bolt heads do stick out a little less then a 1/4 inch. If you look at the picture I added above, you can see where I had masked off the muffler to keep the clear from getting on it. Its really not bad with out the tape. I am thinking about painting it black with high temp auto paint.

I have a G-62 in my second big P-40, and the cylinder and plug are contained as well. I too, had to cut a little clearance for the muffler. The plane is one of my fastest.

Lol you need lots of patients to build zirolis kits.had to redo the landing gear mounts because the fibreglass covers wouldn't fit,and the ailerons and flaps needed a lot of thinking.bottom line check 4 times and glue once : ).jim

Hi,
Here is my now finished TopFlite P-40. It's glassed, all the usual details...rivets, panelines , hatches, bomb drop, sliding canopy. All markings are paint and the plane was painted with warbird colors paint. Robart gear , well seasoned dle 55 for power.

Thanks, the prop you see is my static prop/spinner .I used the stock 2 blade spinner ...filled and bondo'd up the slots the cut round holes into the spinner. The prop came from scalespecialties .It's resin cast. For flying I am using a mejlick 22/10 2 blade and the stock spinner.

That's great. It's a winner of a flyer! Hope you have fun with it. Anybody out there found a three blade spinner for the TF P40?

Kevin, Great looking plane..........!! Love the paint job.

Did you cut the canopy yourself and is it on slides?

Try TRu-Turn They aren't cheap but they do a great job. If you send them your prop they will cut it, balance, and the whole nine yards.

Hi Keith,

Yes just some thin line tape for guidance and several light scores with a very sharp blade and the canopy sections will come clean apart. Yes, the canopy is on rails ..easy to do.

Easy for you to say! Everytime I even touch a canopy it scratches or chips or something happens to it.............

If you get a minute would you post some pictures of the canopy rails and area. I want to do the same on my Skyshark P-40.

Thanks

Keith

Hello All,

A P-40 Brotherhood ... Cool!

I've had a Guillow's 16.5, Series 500 Kit bouncing around my shop for about 2 years. Didn't know what I wanted to do wit it ... until now.

I crashed my E-Flight "Carbon Cub" , Striped all the good parts off of it, Then it was all clear.

Make the Guillow's P-40 R/C. well at least that's the plan.

Here is what I've done so far, any ideas or suggestions would be great, and appreciated.

I'd like to try for Retractable Gear ... Any Ideas??

Thanks,
