P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
#1252
Hey everyone,
ive never really payed much attention to the Curtiss P-40 before because my favorite WW2 planes are the P-47, Corsair, and my all time favorite is the P-51. Anyways I'm 16 years old from BC Canada and I love warbirds more than any other plane out there. For spring break I'm in turks and Caicos island south of Miami, and warbirds from Texas Flying Legends came down with lots of their planes, and one of them was a P-40. Now I'm kinda hooked on them!!! Here is a pic of me with their P-40. Anyways if I were to get one, I'd get the Topflite Arf so anyone have this plane!!??
Thanks guys and cheers.

I've got a pair of them. One is with the factory scheme, the other is done up in U.S.Army colors. Both have DLE 55's, Robart air retracts, J-tech mufflers, and 3-blade props. They fly great but don't try to float them in for a landing.....they need airspeed when touching down. Right now, they are in the lower price band of the Top Flite Giant Scale ARF's. I doubt they'll be around much longer so get one soon.

As you likely know but others may not that pink P-40 is hanging in the Kalamazoo Air Museum in Michigan. Got to see her fly it at Oshkosh years ago.
Yes, it's very real... http://www.classicwarbirds.co.uk/art...40-warhawk.php

Help Identify
ok I give up, I can't find any info on this P-40 I picked up. it is a 60 size 64" wingspan similar to the top flight but it has a one piece fiberglass cowl and it does not have scale retracts. The retracts go side to side like a spitfire or mustang. I have searched all over the interwebs and asked my model buddies and we are stumped. I do not have any contact with the original builder, the man I purchased this from thought it was a spitfire when I inquired about it.(boy was he wrong and I couldn't be any happier I love P-40's) So if you guys have any hints or can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Now that that's out of the way I will be running an O.S. 15GT gasser that I had for another project. It fit way to well and it should make this plane RIP. I salvaged the E-Flight electric retracts from my spitfire wreck and have them all wired in just waiting on some 3/16 wire and axles to make my struts. it is a really nice built plane I can't tell if it is an older ARF or an expert built and covered kit. either way I hope she flies as good as she looks. Thank You, I hope I make the P-40 Brotherhood proud with this unique little Gasser. (on the first pic there was a tower hobbies .75 that was locked up that needs to have an oil bath and cleaned up)

Thank you for the info, Do you happen to have a manual? I only need the suggested CG and weight. I am currently sitting right at 7 lbs and it feels really lite, I can't wait to get her in the air. All I am waiting for is landing gear struts..

Hi Dgiatr,
Your model looks very distressed. I like it........ ( I think ? ) The finish is so realistic that the model looks about 60 years old !!
Love to see it when it is finished.
Cheers,

It truly is a beautiful kit. Mine has been about 90% finished for way too long. Definitely looking forward to the day she flies. Take a look at my bill thread you might see some ideas you like.

I appreciate the work in distressing the plane. I think a plane in that condition would be considered War Weary.. In other words.. taken out of combat. Remember that the ground crews took great pride in their planes. There may have been some planes that looked like that at the end of the war.. but not many in my opinion.

Many planes operating in difficult conditons like hot deserts or other places with high degree of humidity, rain, sun, e.t.c had serious wear in their paint schemes!
Thants some of operational p-40's and others planes photos which i had found while doing my research before i painted mine.
You can easily find a lot more after a quick search in the net!
You can also check at the guys who build little static models to verify that....believe me they know more than i and you do about WWII planes weathering....
