I've read about the AVG and their struggle to keep planes aloft. Pictures of most of the planes don't depict super distressed planes. Even the P40 posted, to my eyes, looks in better shape.
if your happy with the way your plane looks that's great.
fyi a lot of the guys who build the plastic models aren't the end all to be all either. I know many of them.

DGiatr's P-40 had seen a lot of action (including a crash) prior to the scale bash and paint job, so he is correct in modelling a well-worn machine

I've never seen a P-40 under TBM's label. Is it an older release?

Man, the spinner weathering is conspicuous by its absence

Just joking , congrats for a great project - you'd get full static points for that

Starting the painting on my 79" P40 .
It will get three layers , then marking, then washing , weathering and should be ready to go .
This one has a powered linear servo canopy and the pilot turns his head and torso with stick movements tied to the alerons and elevator. His hand is attached to a movable control stick

Hi Bob
Are you saying that the P40ties should not be weathered ?
I am only asking because in my vast amount of photo refferances many are distressed unless its at an airshow or pure bare frame? I am not saying they all show extreme distress but they would go from distressed to extreme.
Ozadation , exaust, dirt, oil , etc

Oh for sure many P40s are weathered. His weathering job looks better to me now that I have seen different photos. It just that I've also seen planes that were so over the top weathered they looked war weary.

Hi!
Thanks a lot to everyone for your kind words!

Indeed, there is a little difference between photos at posts 1267, 1268 and 1269 , taken at the yard of my house where the model looked more distressed , compared to those taken at the field. In the first photos, i hadnt applied the varnish yet so the weathering effect was more "lively". After applying the varnish, i had lost about 10-20% of the weathering effect because the varnish acts like a color filter. Knowing that this would happened since the beginning of my weathering process, i had done some "over-weathering" in order to get a satisfactory effect after spreading some varnish.

Synchari̱tí̱ria!

I hope that's the correct way of saying "congratulations" in Greek. Anyway, that's the nicest P-40 I've ever seen. One of the best models of any type I've seen.

Digiatr, I think your P40 looks incredible ! really done with a light touch !
THis P40 is actually an EPO Foam 79" model so my project is just for fun trying to get the most out of EPO .
The advantages are that you get an incredible light model at 79" with great handeling and enought to give you that warbird feel . The biggest disadvantage is that EPO is subject to heat damage in direct sun for long periods on hot sumnmer day , so when not flying its a good idea to have the plane under a tent or towel .
I dont have the canopy attached in the pic otherwise you would not see such an obvious canopy line.
The canopy slides with a linear servo ( fergelli ) . My first P40 is on the Fergelli website as an example of what can be done with these servos .
The pilot is a bluebox pilot that was originally 10oz, then I cut the head, hands off, rebuilt the body from blue foam and with cheap $7 servos his head turns with the alerons and his torso moves forward and back with elevators.
Then by simply attaching his hand to the control stick that is attached on a flex wire it appears the pilot is moveing the controls , all done with simple cheap servos .
When I totally finsihesd will post a video if anyone is interested .
Airbrush is out of wack so I am in process of also toning down the weathing but need to figure out my brush problems.
I have compression and air will come out of the gun but no paint ??

Sounds like it needs a deep cleaning i.e. take it all apart and dip parts in thinner

What type of airbrush is it?
