Looking forward to seeing your video and the Fokker looks great. Iwill be flying mine once againd when the weather gets a little warmer. 26 degrees and a 20 MPH wind out of the North are something I just don't like very much.

Thanks Jim!
Yeah I hear ya! I'm from Wisconsin originally and did siding and trim for twenty-five winters! Been down here for 17 years now! Love the winters here! Dry cold and doesn't last long

Well, yesterday was iffy!
Should have gotten out in the morning but had other commitments.
My son called me up in White Rock and said the winds were steady at about ten so I packed her up and drove the twenty-four miles from Espanola! Nice soccer field with dormant short grass but when I got there the winds had increased to about twelve or thirteen with gusts to about twenty or so!
I decided to just taxi around and get the feel for the ground handling. Into the wind with full up was great! (I have a ton of throw) Got her up on the mains to just about lift-off and shut her down. Down wind was a different story! With all that up elevator, the wind would get under the elevator nose her over. Had to neutralize the elevator and use bursts of speed to get her tail back down and get her back down wind!
Mind you, I have the mains further forward because I ditched the inter-wheel sub wing and switched the gear wire back to front and front one to the back! That moves the axle forward quite a bit! Had I not changed this I can imagine what a bugger she would be on the ground on any terrain other than a paved surface!
I played with her for at least an hour!
Added some picks! You can see the mains rake in the pics by looking at the angle of the gear blocks! If I put the sub-wing back on as-is the leading edge decalage would be unacceptable so I'm leaving it off for now! It's supposed to be even windier today so I'm watching it now and may be able to swing a flight or two soon!

Jim,I finally finished it. Haven't flown yet. Here are some pics. Powered by DLE35. I put a door in the bottom to attach the lower wings. I also used ball links to attach the N struts. I'll let you know how it flies.

Jim did you now managed to get on our german Warbird Forum? If not I will post pictures here later from home.

To all of you Fokker builder, what is your total weight now? My Fokker turned out to have 7 kg with the OS MAX 200 FS, which are some 15,5 lbs. With that I have her right at the recommend CG.

I haven't flown her yet. I have to wait for better weather and free time. Both doesn't match very often.

@DeJr: I like the white strips you put on the top wing. Maybe a good idea for my Fokker. But I would be carefull with the connection method you use for the stabs.

Best regards
Robert

Dan,

I am looking forward to seeing your video of the maiden flight and the plane looks really good. I bet it fly's as nice as it looks. Your Dora looks really nice. I am almost done with my Dave Platt FW-190 A8. I'll post a pic when I get her ready.

Robert,

Sorry I was not able to log into your site and I tried 3 times. I was supposed to get a e-mail telling me I was registered but I never got one and I tried to login in. Please send your pic's I am looking forward do seeing them. I never put my Fokker D-VII on a scale so I not not know how much it weighsbut if I had to guess I would say very near 15 lbs.

DeJr,

Nice looking DLE 35. I would have never guess a DLE 35 could be mounted in the up right position. Take some video if you can of your maiden flight. Good Luck.

Hello everybody sorry for the delay but I do not get a reminder when posts show up here. Anyway I have good news. I made the maiden of my Fokker yesterday and I can say she flys so great. I used the measurements Jim figured out for the wing angle and it is perfect. My weight is at 7 kg wet (16 lbs). She is so easy to fly, take offs and landing is smooth and scale and the OS MAX FS 200 is the perfect power plant with a great sound and more as enough power.

Because I was alone I have no pictures and videos from the maiden, but I can show pictures from the roll-out. Honestly I do not know of anybody who is able to make good pictures or videos of flying models instead of myself..:-)

So Jim a big thank you for sharing your test results with us. I am sure without your tests I would have had a lot of trouble with her.

Greatings from Germany
Robert.

First flight was FUN the elevator rate was to high and the ailerons were to low. But we got it up and down in one piece. Climb was like a rocket from third throttle to full.
Jim I changed the top wing incidence to what you suggested and that took care of the climb problem. Thanks for all the information you provided on this site. The lowered the throw on the elevator added throw to the ailerons and that made the Fokker fly much better.

@Beringeria: I have included a picture of how the "N" struts are attached. Six bolts then snap eight ball links and the plane is assembled ready to fly. I love biplanes but hate the assembly and disassemble time.

I know I have a pound of weight in the front with the DLE35 to balance the airplane at the suggested 4.5".

Thanks ALL for your suggestions.

Robert & DeJR,

Glad to hear that both of you have some great flying Fokker's now. I to love to fly mine but the winds here in Memphis have been 20 to 30 MPH the last week and it is going to rain this weekend. I guess I'll just have to build that flower bed for my wife to give me something to do then I can finish my FW-190-A8. DeJR I know what you are saying about assembling and disassembling the bi-wing planes at the field. I have a Dodge 1500 pickup truck and the Fokker D-VII fits in the bed fully assembled. I tie her down with bungee cords and she is ready to fly when I get to the field. I keep the Fokker assembled at all times.

Hey All,
I'm going to try to get her up either this week or next! I can't fly her where I usually fly cause the strip is too short and too rough but I'm doing a trim job up in Whiterock that will last about 10 days and they have a huge well kept soccer field there! I will video the flight as well
Will keep y'all posted!

Hey All,
I flew her from a 200ft. really rough runway and she took just about the whole runway to lift off! Very scale looking but under-powered with the AXI on a 6s5000 pack!
She flew very stable but I didn't dare do anything other than easy banking turns. Landing was too hot and she bounced once pretty hard but I kept her level and she stayed on her feet til the end and then just tipped onto the prop. Needless to say, the front gear legs broke loose!
I repaired the gear by adding some ply across the front and along the sides! That should have been in the design anywho
I will go with a OPTO HV ESC and use 2- 4s5000's in series next time out and she will be a real DVII
She's a real beauty on the ground and in the air and I love this plane! I may get the SE 5 down the road too!
Will keep y'all posted!

You might try ARFPROS. They sell ECOMRC arf kit but don't list the Fokker DVII on their web page. Give then a call they my be able to help you.
