Default EVOLUTION 160CC GAS RADIAL

Not sure if there is a thread on this engine (didn't see one on a search).
Just noticed it out on Horizon's web site.
It's at the bottom of their list so I'm guessing that it just came out.
At $2900 it seems like a good buy plus it comes with the collector ring.
It's quit a bit cheaper than Moki's 180 at $3700.
Moki 150 is $3500
Looks like a good candidate for the 100" range planes.

Get on it, sam!!! blaze some new trails for us!

I think there's one NIB listed here in the RCU marketplace! Maybe a few hundred less than list price...

Just one thought, I think it's a bit wider than the Moki 150?  That means that it may not fit in the Meister F4u or P47 cowls. Those are two very popular choices for the Moki 150, other planes in that size might have similar issues. So you might want to decide which plane(s) you are aiming for and confirm fit?

Whit,
Good point.
I just checked:
E. 160 has 11.4" (290mm) width.
M. 150 has 10.0" (255mm) width.
M. 180 : couldn't find the dimensions.

It would work in any of the round cowlings Meister airplanes. At least you have horizon service backing this motor and thats a big plus

Beg pardon, but at 11.4" it will not fit in the Meister F4u cowl. I measured mine downstairs and it's at least a half inch short for the Evolution if it's 11.4". I know the Moki 150 fits, but I'll bet .25$ that the Evolution is too big given the measurement above.

I do not have a P47 cowl to measure so no opinion there.

Unfortunately, the evolution dimensions do look pretty big for Ziroli/Meister planes.
If I remember correctly, my Moki 250 is about 12 1/8" and barely fits in the comp-arf 110" F4U cowl, so the E 160 is going to be tight fitting in a 92"-100" plane: the cowl would have to be checked, individually, for each plane (bummer).
Also, I'm not so sure the dimensions in the chart found on TBM's web site are accurate for the Moki as it shows only 11.22" for the Moki 250 and I'm sure that isn't correct:

TBM chart: click on 'specs' and the on the picture at the bottom of the screen:

I can measure my Moki 150 if it would help, it certainly fits in both the Meister F4u and the P47, anyone flown one in a Ziroli F4U or F6F

I've got GT-80's in my Ziroli SBD and F6F and they are a tight fit with about a 10" width.
Bummer, looks like the e 160 needs more of a 105" span plane. To bad a 130 gas size doesn't exist in the low 2000 dollar range!

Yeah, when they first came out a few of us wondered if the strategy of being just a tad bigger than the Moki 150 wasn't a bad marketing decision. Understandable in principle as you normally try to get an edge on the competition but a radial in the 10" diameter or slightly under would have all the Ziroli round cowls and the Meister planes as prospective platforms, couple that with a lower price and Horizons excellent service and support and they would have a game changer IMHO.

I'm no engine designer but couldn't you shrink the diameter slightly and still hold the displacement the same or better yet keep the same overall diameter but increase the displacement slightly? Enough at least to claim an advantage in power while fitting in the same cowls as the Moki?
