Default Top Flite Giant P-51D Mustang What engine would you choose ? POLL

HI
Just like many of you I am buiding a Top Flite Giant P-51D Mustang ARF.

Please select what you think is the best engine for the P-51 considering:

Power to weight ratio
Best value for the money
Least cowl modifications

Thanks for all your help.

DL-50. Excellent engine for the price. Cheaper than all of the and it has electronic ignition.

The Revolution 50 is the least intrusive in the front of the plane. Everything with a side carb has it sticking out one side and the muffler on the other. The rear mount carb engines are second best for looks. The G-45 and the G-62 get you the most bang for the buck.
This plane has been built to death on this forum and this question asked ad-nauseum. Do a search and you'll find lots of opinions and answers. The fact of the matter is that there isn't an optimal engine but some are better than others. Another consideration is what would you use the engine for after the Stang? That might help with your choice.

There are 4 T/F Mustang ARFs, in my area. 2 have ZDZ 40s, mine has a Brison 3.2, and the 4th is still being built. He has not decided on power but, is considering a ZDZ 40 or 50.

Turns a 22x10 prop at 4900 rpm, or 20x10 at 6K, so I would say no, not a good choice. Looks to be roughly equivalent a G-38 in power.

I currently have a DL50 in a 30% extra 260 at 17 1/2 lbs. wet, and it is turning 7100 rpms with 2 gallons of fuel at 30:1 (lawnboy ashless). The prop is a Vess 23A. The engine is still breaking in, and I'm still tuning on it. I know this is the warbird section, but pulling out of a hover on this plane is great, so it should pull the P-51 around just fine.

Hi,

I have a P-51D giant Top Flite airplane with a DL-50 and J'TEC Pitts Style Wraparound Muffler since the first flight the engine goes off after 7-9 minutes of taking off and noticed that the engines over heats all the time.

I have all opening possible on the cowl in the front an in the back and the engine still over heats.

I have tried different ways to fix it like changing oil mix, carburetion, leaving the engine a little rich, but the problem continues all the time.

I have had bad landings after the engine goes off and invested a lot of money replacing once the wing and the cowl…

I do really love this plane but….

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND ME?

Regards,

Gerry

And what prop? Maybe a vapor lock in the fuel line? Is it close to anything that gets hot?

Gerry

I have a DA 50 in mine. I have a Keleo muffler. So the only openings are in the front, a little of the head is out and the opening around the mufflers. Never overheats. My friend has the same and his does not overheat either. I'm not a DL50 fan. Could be the engine itself.

Thanks to every one...

The engine I have in the P-51 is DA not a  DL, sorry for the mistake...

I will send you pictures as soon I be  back in home.

Maybe the problem is the pitts muffler that keeps the heat on the engine head and the cowl... I see all of you that have Keleo installed...

Regards

Gerry...

My first One Had a DLE55 with Keleo Muffler worth every penny !

After it died, Bad Crazy Due to DX8 TX battery, I just got a secund one, and it will also have a DLE55

I have 3 of these TF Gaints and it seem like the new standard for easy and less cutting is the DLE55 or even better DLE 55RA or G62 with mod carb.

Iput DLE55 in 2 of my birds but Im putting a ZDZ Super 80cc in my P47 so I can spin a scale 22X10 4 blade Belia Prop.
