<--- this guy is designing scale struts with the correct geometry and custom retract mechanisms to keep the mechanism out of the gear wells. The design is done for the 1/4 TA152 and i am waiting on the costs from my machinist. If its cost effective, ill do 1/4.5 and 1/5 as well.

Thanks Tony. There's a lot of gorgeous planes on this thread. I enjoy checking in to see others work. I love the recent 109E additions. Jeff Foley's plane pretty much walks on water for me...as good as they get.

My 1/5 ME-109 G-14 is about ready to fly. I am thinking about a Ta-152. Dave Andersen offers plans for a 1/5 scale Ta-152 H. I am seriously thinking about taking his plans for the fuselage and getting a foam wing cut for the Ta-152 C; short wing version of the H. With a foam wing, I can just take measurements and don't have to do any engineering. The main reason for doing the C version is to have a single piece wing that fits in my mini-van. A 1/5 scale C wing would be around 88 inches.
I have found some schemes on the internet for a C, but I can't tell which are imagination and which are documented. Does anybody know of any printed books or other material that has schemes for the 152 C-0, C-1, or C-2? Profiles only are enough. This is going to be built strictly as a sport plane, but a real scheme to shoot for would be fun.

The plans for my next Luft build arrived today. Its a 1/4 TA-152H. I had the original plans blown up 125%. Span roughly 147.5" and 108" long or so. Here is a shot of the fuselage side view on my 4'x8' table. The rudder and cowl are hanging off the edges.
I would Like to mold the fuselage along with the gun hood and cowling, but in order to do so i need to sell a few fuselages to fund this thing. I already have two of the 3-5 spoken for. Would anyone else be interested? Price would be $800-1000+ shipping for a fuse, cowl, canopy and gun hood.

Thanks for the kind words there Mike. You're embarrasing me. I have been so fortunate over the years to have learned modeling from extremely talented people. There are so many that I could never name them all, and some of them are no longer with us....but their talents will live on. They are the guys that I call "lifers". Their life is built around modeling. When I was a lot younger, I worked out in Montezuma, Iowa at Sig and there was a guy there by the name of Claude McCullough. Claude was a "lifer". He worked at the plant all day, worked on his models at home at night and weekends, and his entire house was basically one giant workshop and reference library. He never married....just built and flew models....scale models. He loved it. Thats one of the guys I learned from.

I have kinda started on the Saettia 80" ME-163 and it's fuse isn't all that big. cost over $300 to ship it out over 10 years ago.

That's what happens when your powered by banana's instead of apples, the sun up here makes people go banana's! .... and it wasn't hijacking the thread, I was trying to get another luft bird in the air
You a weapon Thomas! Tomcats, pancakes, and wulfs, all at once! If you want to capture a market outside of the US of A make sure the fuse is in 2 half's to make it ship-able.

It will have the option of a two piece fuse, but the split will be at where the fuse extension split line would be. It will still be a BIG box, where the only cost effective way to ship it would be on the slow boat (i have shipped a 16'x5'x8' crate for $700 this way). But if someone wants one, im going to have to take deposits because ill end up having $3k+ invested in the fuse plug and mold.

That will be a huge airplane Invert. I have my 1/5 variety, and it is big enough for me. Breaking the wing down is a necessity, but I left my fuselage full length. Pay particular attention to that wing.It is a tricky beast. It would seem he has that TA 152 "Kink" built in, and this makes that trailing edge a bear with those blasted tabs. There may be a rib or 2 that are not the right size either. If I were to do another one, I would re-engineer the wing and do the aft section of the wing separately to make it easier to keep straight.

Thanks for the heada up Vert. This is going to be a bit more expensive than i expected. I built up the materials list for the airframe and its around $1000 in just wood. Throw another $600 in epoxy, $600 in fiberglass for the mold and another $500-600 in other stuff just to get to the poijt of having a glass fuse and an airframe ready for equipment install.
Im thinking a DLE120 or a ZDZ100 inline twin. Or if i can talk the wife into it, a kolhm IL100 or 150...

Hey Invertmast, what size wheel will that TA take. I have these at almost 7" that I was going to sell but would like a model to put them in. I was going to get a 113 Vailly FW190 since I have a DLE170 sitting. Wheels are always the issue for me when doing a scale model.

Very interesting to hear the background with Claude and Sig. I went out to the Sig sponsored fly in as a kid and went through the balsa shop and got a new Kadet. I was awestruck at some of the great models...really inspiring as a kid. I flew a whole bunch of Sig kits through the years and still wish I had my old King Kobra back.

Here's a picture of the first half or the Horizontal stab for the 1/4 TA152H. I hadnt planned on starting this thing until this winter.. But, i was waiting for some primer in some F14 molds to dry and i am waiting on parts for the V173's.. So i figured i would do something productive.
The stab is modified so each half can be removed from the fuse 1/2" outside of the fuse top profile, which should be just about perfectly placed for stab fillets. The stab tube is 1/2" OD and i will use a 1/4" hardwood dowel for the antirotation pin. I hope to use either one servo in each stab half and a RDS system for each elevator, or i will design a central elevator pull-pull arm and use some square tubing in each elevator to "plug" into that central arm for elevator control. Not sure yet, ill figure it out when i get there. One thing for sure, no external linkages allowed!

Fast Thomas, nice and fast!!
well, to keep up with the jones's here are some pic of the cradle I'm made so I can work on the Komet. I have a ok set of foam cores to work with, and my order of flite skin arrived a few weeks ago so I am pretty much ready to start laying out the bits for the wings.
i want to have the wings completed before I start on the fuse so that I can see how far back I can get away with the turbine being. Joe has you mount it pretty much in the cockpit area which I want to avoid. A shorter thrust tube with also save overall weight as well.
my 60" flyboy hobbies Komet parked beside it for size comparison.
thanks
