RE: HobbyKing 50cc Warbirds
The retract position on this spit looks close to the CG spot. Anyone flown this thing yet to see if it loves to nose over?
I've flown the TF spit off the grass runway and it was a bear. Narrow stance and so close to CG location.
Had similar experience with the Brian Taylor spit until I cheated a bit to swing the retracts out closer to LE.

No one has flown this HK spitfire yet that we are aware of. Its pretty new and only a handful of build threads(one here and one on rcgroups). The retracts are in the scale position for the real plane. I had a similar concern myself and asked my long time flying friend about this. He's had numerous large scale spitfires over the years and the position of the gear actually made him happy...and is part of why he himself bought the plane. He said it should be just fine.....just manage the elevator and throttle for takeoffs and landings.

RE: HobbyKing 50cc Warbirds
That's exactly what I had been thinking several weeks ago when I ordered the first set of gear. But....since my elderly friend wantsd to buy the plane and get started on it, I sold that set to him. Ironically, the next day my wife told me to go buy the plane. So.....I bought a 2nd set of the retracts and ordered the plane right then. Tracking says it will be here on Wednesday.

What type of 190???? Do you want an fw-190d9 or an A variant? ...

I think the 60cc HK radial would be just a bit too big for the ESM 71" FW 190 - or do you reckon that would be a half-decent match up?

How did this post go so far off???
I might as well add to the caos.....
I have 2 magnums .91 4-strokes....The carbs are very touchy when inverted. BOTH of the carb/intake were machined incorrectly...So much so that
I had to place a spacer behind the carb to engine attachment point, so it would fit properly w/o leaking....
My OS engines have always ran like a clock.... I have had MANY kinds of rc engines. Planes, RC cars, Trucks, Buggies, Boats...ect.... and
OS has been BY FAR the MOST reliable engines I have ever owned... LEGENDARY CARBS??? YEP....
Those have always been made in Japan, and because our Dollar is tanked, and work outsourced, we have to pay to play.....
I have owned a Epson Artisan 800 until I found out that the Crooks at the Epson Foundry, had set up the PADS... (the fuzzy things that the ink goes onto for cleaning)
so it would only let you print so many times, until it SHUT DOWN and blinked ''Print Pads Full, Bring into AUTh. dealer to fix''
I even downloaded a fix, so it would work again, it did 1-more print..and stopped working again..
After numerous calls to Epson, (which was really a transferred call to INDIA, and I got to hear a woman and MAN try to make sense of our ENGLISH Language)
Other customers had the same thing happen, only a few of them (w/in 2 years of purchase) had a remanufactured one sent to them free...
I owned mine for over 2 years so I was on my own.... I can't understand that part.... It would have been in there best interest, that they give me a new printer...
The cartridges run 90$ for all the colors, and if you are out a PINK, you can't ever prink BLK/WHITE documents!!!!! SO you are FORCED to purchase MORE cartridges in order to use your printer...
After talking with the Indians, I was transferred back to AMERICA, so I could lodge a complaint with Epson....
''I can't be the only one that complained about this''? Epson Techi ''no , that is why we don't do that on our CURRENT printers''
It isn't about buying American, it is about Making AMERICA Strong again....
B. A degrees are a DIME A DOZZEN...... AND MASTER degree's are Common...... Fairly soon, you will need a Doctorate to work at BURGER KING!....

Yea , ASP has some good carbs too, That is if you new the Super Tiger and old 2 needle Fox carbs. At one point the heli guys swap out the OS carb for the ASP in I believe it was an OS 90, not too sure. The OS middle use to load up and cause them problems. Used a few Asp carbs in other engines I had, Skyward the Chinese version, change a few carbs on Royals....yep those were the days.
Oh yea, I think Enya had better carbs than OS.

It would be anything but the D variant, which runs an inline whereas I'm keen on a radial.

A bit larger displacement and with 7 cylinders, horizonhobby sells a 77cc 7 cylinder radial:
http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...ine-EVOE777#t2
Or you could use the saito 325 5 cyl or saito 3cyl 450 radial:
But....there is a 190A giant scale available
Is this what you have in mind?

RE: HobbyKing 50cc Warbirds
Great info - thanks Kahloq.
The 85" looks just a tad too big, while the 71" is just that little bit too small.
That's why I was wondering if anyone makes an FW 190 in 80"....?

RE: HobbyKing 50cc Warbirds
No probs - thought it might have been my puter - things have been playing up a bit here tonight.
I came across Bob Holman's models only an hour or so - and saw the one you have there. Darn, if only the wings were already done - just not in the mood for sheeting etc atm.
What AUW did yours come in at, ready to spin the prop over?

It would be great if people have a bit a patience. I stated mine isnt arriving until wednesday. As far as my friend's....its hard for ME to take pictures of HIS plane when it's located at HIS house. He does not visit the forums, but....rest assured.....when I get mine this week....I will take pictures and answering anything I can.

Man...that TF 190 sure looks mouth watering.
Finally justified it to myself...and the retracts... until the shipping came out to $450.
Crap - pipe-dream has just gone up in smoke...

RE: HobbyKing 50cc Warbirds
There's no hobbyshop in Aussie land that carries TopFlite planes or one that can order it for you?
$450 just for shipping....holy crap.
I know its not an A version, but I know there are places in Australia that carry the ESM line of planes. They have the 82.5" Fw-190 D9.
There is also another D9 available here that's made by Vantex(same company that makes the Hobbyking Spitfire)

Thx Kahl...
Really after an A model now - the D would mean a mind-shift in engines etc.
Ya know how it is - finally get your heart set on something, and it gets hard to budge...

RE: HobbyKing 50cc Warbirds
PS - funny you should mention Ozzie Dealers for Top Flite.
The only one listed on the TF site is "Dawn Trading" in NSW.
I go to their site, but they make no link reference to Top Flite - closest would be Blackhorse, and that's back to a 70" FW 190A.
I rang them once before for something I was after that someone suggested that they carried, and the bloke I spoke to was really vague and ended up saying "um...no... don't think we stock that kind of thing" (yet their website suggested they did).
*sigh*
Wonder if Top Flite are interested in setting up an genunine Ozzie Rep? (that would be me )
No...seriously... I'd bring 10 units into the country if we could strike a decent price and take it from there.
We're really starved of decent kit down here sometimes. And considering the postage, it's not really that surprising.
Surely a spot in some container somewhere would bring things back to a realistic price? Not really into making anything out of it apart from covering my cost and a little bit of time - more of a service to others here Down Unda.
Dream on...

Maybe you should try calling that one hobbyshop again and if you get the same dumb a.s.s on the phone, ask to speak to someone else or call back at different times seeing of there is a different employee working.
Some people just care about their jobs nor have the knowledge to answer properly and instead of saying ..."ill get back to you after i look into it"...they just say no or I dont know cuz its easier and they are lazy. Its ppl like you talked to on that phone call that causes customers to go look elsewhere for their needs and then those hobbyshops go out of business.
