Here is another one of my Balsa USA Dr1 triplanes that went in.

I just did a snap roll and the rudder jammed into a full deflection.

Spun in to it's death.

The cause of the rudder jamming, was from a previous slight mid air that I has the day before.
Another friend of mine was flying in formation with me and bumped my rudder from behind with his wing.
I has to retrim my rudder to land it, but no problems. No apparent damage to either plane.
I inspected the rudder MOVEMENT with my radio, and seemed to be working fine. Had I put pressure on
it on the ground, I would have noticed that the servo horn had split/failed.
Normal manuevers proved me wrong.

I was showing off in front of alot of people and The Flying Chef (Bruno) shot me down in his French Neiuport. This was at Warbirds over Owatonna, Minnesota
There is a great story on how it ended up on the flag pole as a windsock...

It is very hard to deal with the bad crashes. I can only post the event after a few years. This happend in 2006. Victory roll in overcast conditions. Thought I did one roll and turned. Did one and a half, turned plane went down never could quite figure out what was happening befor it went in. Things happened very fast. But no one was hurt and it did not burn.

Well this is/was my Skywalker piloted by Wiley Coyote. Before the last flight he ate a bad batch of rotten road kilt cat and crashed. Darn near kilt us both! He did recover and is still flying the Giant sportster with a Saito 2.20. Me, well, as they say, the reason to fly toy airplanes is because you can always see your stunts...and when you crash...you live.

I have no problem posting pics of my crashes nowadays.
Although this reminds me of something funny years ago.
I was alone at our airfield flying a nice plane, I did something stupid and crashed!
I quickly ran and picked up all the pieces and hid them in my truck before anybody else showed up.
I was just plain old embarrassed that I had crashed, being an experenced flyer.

I bet I am not the only one that's done that

I managed to crash my low wing plane one day really good. I lacked a few inches of altitude when I did a split S a tiny bit too close to the ground.
It had a sheeted foam core wing and you can see the two halves in the background. I am standing where the battery pack wound up at. I had recently rebuilt the Saito 80 engine on it, so that was a bummer getting it all dirty again.





But I have a extra one so I put it together using a small NGH 9cc gas engine and had the new one out flying again.

Here’s my Funster after straining it through the top of a tall fir tree. The week before the engine faltered on take-off and I tried to turn before flying out over the water and managed to hit a pine tree beside the runway for my trouble. That put a deep dent in the stabilizer and tore out the wing mount bolts. I suspect the repair late that night wasn’t quite as accurate as it should have been and the result was a tendency to turn left. After tapping the detested digital trims I only managed to get it into a right turn. When I looked down to check the trim position I didn’t notice I was losing altitude until it hit the top of a 90 foot fir tree about 100 feet away. The fuselage made it through but the tail and wing center section were caught in the branches. I climbed about 80 feet before I came to my senses and poked a few parts out with a stick but it took a storm blowing threw to dislodge the center section. The tail is still up there. As I grow older and my depth perception fades away I miss features such as analog trims more and more

Here's a fresh crash for you, about 2 hours old. Top Flight 60 Corsair arf on it's maiden flight. It got about 4 feet in the air then tip stalled and after a couple cartwheels this is whats left lol. I did post this in another thread but that was the tread about buying it cheap...

Yea, I don't think it'll take long to fix it unless my P-47 gets here before I get started on it. If that happens then it'll be next on the list lol.

Don't have pics but I had an ESM Corsair74" version that was a blast to fly but a putty cat to land. This plane would just settle in and set down gently like my Waco. I had done 4 flights on her when I decided to do another one. Well on the preflight run up the engine acted funny like it was skipping and all the controls went non responsive. I shut the engine down by the power switch and proceeded to check it all out. I was running jr 72mhz. The engine was a g-38 converted to EI. Well after finding nothing. I decided to go up for one last flight.( mistake) after three circuits I decided to land because she was acting funny. Well as a turned to come back across the field the engine started skipping and the plane rolled over on her back and went straight in. Nothing left. Fuse back to the cockpit smashed, engine jug broke clean off. Have never found pilot. Club members believe he has evaded all rescue to keep from being put in another plane. Lol.

But the best part was I never take these things hard. You Crash you crash but I really took this one hard because I really love the corsair and loved the looks and way that it flew. Well a couple of weeks later I got a call from a fellow flyer( a retired army Colonel) that is good friend and royal PITA at times. Lol. He asked me why I had not been out lately, well I told him that I was a little down with the crash and he told me something I will never forget and still makes me laugh. " alright buddy you crash a yak or something you get a day, for a warbird you get a week, get you (butt) back out to the field"!! I have always laughed when I think of that.

Yea I don't take this stuff to hard. I've never really been a fan of the corsair but I got it while it was on sale back in December because it was cheaper than the P-40 or P-47. Now my wife on the other hand isn't to pleased. She was yelling at me about how I didn't learn my lesson so I asked her what lesson is that and she said your ordering another plane within an hour of crashing one you never got to fly. I responded that I did get to fly it, just not as much as I wanted to lol. I told her the only reason I ordered a new plane was because the wing set for the corsair was over 200 bucks so why not spend an extra 100 bucks and get a whole plane but that didn't go over to well either but she did say that at least I didn't order the same plane lol. I'll fix the corsair up and drop the magnum 91 in her and use it as a test plane. I might even try using the metal tape on her to see how well it works since I plan on using it on the B-17 when I get her done.

Are you sure that it was caused by the flutter? The speed of your Do- 335 wasn´t so high.
On the video I see you lost something after the take off (time 0:33-0:34).

I think what we are seeing coming off was one of the elevators and when the plane finally nosed over the other one broke loose.

Yes, it could be one of the elevetors, because the thing which came off was quite big. But who knows?

I´m sure, that flutter is noisy problem. I is something as vibration of the elevator or aileron after the crossing the critical velocity. I saw flutter in the aileron of the F3J glider, the result of the flutter was only half of the wing because the other half was gone off. Did you have all pull bar alright?

Here's my comp arf 3m extra. My engine died in a hover probably 10 ft up. It was rebuilt and flew for a long time after then was sold. Still miss the old compy! I have many more if I can find them, lol

It might look ugly and I know this is a crash thread but I wanted to show ya never give up. I need to do some finishing touches to it like fix the cowl and put some lock tight on the muffler but she has flown and did pretty good. I do have to admit though that the reason she crashed isn't because of tip stall. I made the biggest of newbie mistakes. As I was fixing everything I found out that the channel was reversed so when I tried to save it I actually crashed it instead lol...
