Hi Foodstick,

The Nosen P-51 flies real well. It is not hard to fly. Since you received one already built, you won't have any problems flying it. I have one with a Quadra 75 turning a Master Airscrew wooden prop that is 24X12. The planes weights 34 pounds and has Robart retracts. If left alone, the takeoff roll is about 30 feet. I always keep it on the ground for at least 60 to 70 feet before I lift it off. The CG is 1.5" ahead of former #6 according to the plans. I think I have mine about 1" ahead of former #6 and it flies real light on the controls. When you are ready to fly it, fly it like a War Bird and not like a 3D airplane. The control throws that I have are set up to these settings: Ailerons, 5/8" up and 1/2" down, elevator, 3/4" up and 3/4" down, flaps 45º down to land and it lands real slow. I always land mine on the main wheels, no three point. Rudder 1.5" left and right. Here is a photo of my plane. Enjoy your Nosen P-51.......

I wanted an aluminum heat shield to protect the motor box from the muffler heat...

My throttle setup needed to be setup to take heat due to the close muffler as well. So I think I have everything so it will work without making any radio interference.

Here is a shot of my partially constructed tail wheel steering setup...

I think I would set up some sort of override on that tail wheel steering linkage. Using a nylon gear servo, you might knock out a gear...

Larry I am right with you, that funny looking servo arm on the tail wheel servo is a (servo saver) with a self centering spring setup they use on rc cars, I am hoping its enough.

Sorry about that , I didn't notice the funny looking servo arm. I'm sure it will work out just fine.....

No problem Larry I am glad to have you keeping an eye on me, sometimes I overlook things

I will probably install a better servo as well. I am still in the mock up stage on the steering setup. I need to make some covers for the servo area also.

Ready for Owatonna, and flying at Owatonna are two different things ! hahahahahha

I admit I am more of a small low pressure event guy myself... With tons of people and commotion I don't enjoy flying much..

I have been messing with the plane a bit this morning, I keep finding things I need to do. The latest realization is that I am probably going to have to cut my lower cowl for clearence on the muffler, or wait until it gets heat damage.... its CLOSE, I could build a blister onto it for clearance... I started figuring out where the onboard kill switch is going to be mounted, and ran my wires back to the elevator and rudder servos...

Does anyone know if Nosen P51 tends to need a bunch of lead? I would guess it might .. I haven't really seen that discussed much anywhere.

I have a Q 100 in mine.. no nose weight. That looks to be a G 62? you may have to add a bit of nose weight. Will not matter, I remember seeing these fly with Q 35s in the old days.....

Good luck, keep us posted. You will like the way the plane flies.

The original Nosen design called for a .60 glow engine using a belt reduction drive. Can you imagine?
