.60 size retracts: Are they real or just a myth?
Hi guys,
So as the title says, are .60 size retracts real or just a myth?
I was going to try the Wingspan electrics made for the TF .60 Gold Edition Corsair. Sold out.
I tried to find Lados as they seem to be goodquality and get pretty good reviews. Sold out
I thought maybe I would try the Century Jet retracts made for the TF Corsair. Sold out
I thought maybe I would go with Sierra retracts as everyone says they are the best. Cannot find where to buy them and have read a few posts that concern me.
I looked into eFlight, but they do not make a .60 size retract.
I thought about Robart, but they seem to get pretty bad reviews from people. They are however the ONLY retract INSTOCK.
I never thought for a second when I started this build that the retracts would be anything but readily available. Wow was I wrong.
If anyone can point me to agreat quality, in stock and ready to shipretract for a TF Corsair .60 Gold Edition I would be eternally grateful!! I believe they are really just a myth, but I hope I am proved wrong.
Also, does anyone know if there is a forum app for this site? Tapatalk?
Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!
Mike

Eflite does make a 60 size electric unit marked as 60-120 size EFLG400. I don't think they have them perfected yet as I've read about problems and seen some with the problems of not retracting properly, breaking due to weak parts.
Whoops...just read more closely and see they are for a Corsair. No ratating option on this size it seems.

ORIGINAL: All Day Dan
mike, Spring Air has them and they are better than anything you have tried to get. That air down function is a great safety factor and makes the installation much easier. There is only one air hose needed. Dan.

Dan,
He needs rotating gear.

They are $250 a pair. They appear to be in stock. Don't know what shipping is. They only extend 90degrees. They've worked on my Corsair and Hellcat for years. Unfortunately, they both have lousy ground handling because of that 90degree crap.
The two rotator sets are:
RS333 RT
RS333 RB

Thanks for the fast replies!! Those Lados would probably work. I did not realize they were 90 and not 100 degree rotators. Also, I really prefer to buy from a dealer in the US. It could take weeks to get them from overseas.
Are the Robarts really as bad as people say? Are the Century Jet retracts any good? It looks like Tower may have them very soon.
Thanks again for the help!! I would love to be able to order retracts tomorrow if I can find any.

Lados are produced in France and from every report I've seen you get them in about a week. Of course customs may slow that up a day or two but I've never seen it.
The owner of Lado frequents these forms and replies promptly.
It used to take 5 months to get a set of Lados, if at all, until Christopher bought the company and moved it to France. Now you get them right away.
Christopher has done a great job.
I had a set of rotators for a P-40 but the plane died.... Um was rekitted... I sold the retracts to good friend and they are still flying today.

As Joe says, the Lados from France show up about as soon as orders from Tower or Horizon.
They are more than adequate for our 60 size warbirds except for the rotators having too short an extension for good ground handling.

RE: .60 size retracts: Are they real or just a myth?
Thanks for the info.! I had been reading that Sierra was taking a long time to get products out. Maybe that is no longer an issue. It looks to be that a majority of people like the quality of the Sierras. Do you know what else has to be purchased? For example, would I also need to purchase a kit for the plumbing and a pump? Do you know what the optional TorK Links are? There is not alot of info on their site. Thanks!!!

I've owned .60 size rotating gear from both companies........... I'm not sure what your concerns are with Sierra but I have a set of their rotaters that will be going in my next Hellcat and they are far and away the best quality rotater currently available in my opinion. They can be purchased directly from Sierra. http://www.sierragiant.com/

They may have to be what goes in my present Hellcat. It started life with Lados. Ground handling sucked bigtime. It got Wingspans. Those failed to operate. It got replacement/updated Wingspans and special battery setup. Same result. It got latest version updated Wingspans. They burned out. It's got Lados again but I'm about burned out and it just might never be flown again.
When you get around to that next Hellcat, it'd be great to see a thread about it's gear.

The Sierras do seem expensive, but you have to remember that you will not have to spend 100.00 on Robostruts. I am really leaning toward the Sierras. I will call them tomorrow.

Call Bruce at Century Jet tomorrow. I know he has them in stock. I have been using these retracts on my H9 Corsair for 6 years and they work great. Never had a failure...well except that one day I forgot to put air in them...belly landing didn't hurt the plane or retracts.
I was over at CJM last week working on the new electric retracts and I know he had them in stock.

Mike,
I'd steer as clear as possible from the CJM gear. The majority of searches on the subject will bear that out... unfortunately.

RE: .60 size retracts: Are they real or just a myth?
Hi Tevans,
I actually talked to someone at CJM yesterday and was excited about their product. Then I started reading about how the gear were sloppy and rivets loose. You can even see earlier in the post that Chad has an opinion on CJM and it does not appear to be positive. In fact, it seems impossible to find a set of retracts that people actually like and that work well. I am still very interested in CJM, especially if Tower gets them in stock soon. It says lat Dec. for stock. Thanks for the help!!!!!!!

Mike-
Retracts take more abuse than any other system in our planes. They need regular, routine maintenance to work well long term. I also have Robart and Sierra retracts as well as CJM. They all work well when properly and routinely cared for. I think the majority of searches will bear this out. Good Luck Mike.

RE: .60 size retracts: Are they real or just a myth?
Hi,
I feel ya. I'm not sure what to do with mine. I happen to have a NIB set of the Robarts, so I guess I'm going to use them. I like the Sierras, but don't want to spend $300 when I have a set here and struts I can use. I've had good enough luck over the years with Robart stuff, but to be certain there's better out there. As for CJM, I spent many years in the retail hobby business and have tried many of their products. Unfortunately, the issues I saw were more the rule than the exception. I do wish there were more options out there for this application...

MY 2 Cents - I have Sierra Retracts in my F7F Tigercat, A1 Skyraider, T-28 and feel they are the most Professionally made retracts available. Also their braking system is excellent. I can call Darrell at Sierra Retracts and get EXCELLENT service. PS Picture of Russian "Bear" does not have Sierra Retracts. Col. Chuck Winter

I think I am just going with Robart. This is getting ridiculous. Tower has the Robart retracts I need and all in stock. At 305.00 minus any discounts I can't complain. I will probably sleep on it and order the Robarts from Tower in the morning. CJM retracts went from late Dec. to on order.
