Hi,

Will the DLE 55 (Side) stock muffler fit inside the cowl? If not, how much hacking are we looking at?

Thanks

Hi Shaun aka Y/A

Did not mean to be so blunt on the last post, but had to take our girl to the airport, what I would suggest is a pits rap around I am using Bisons and Jtec good luck with both, the bison's for some reason seam to be a bit quieter

Bob,

No, I was happy to just get a response finally! I have the J-tech one for the P-51, but was hoping to use a stock one. Seems like if it won't work it's so 'barely' a miss, I might just do it anyway. Looks like I might be able to either do a blister or even heat the sucker up and push on it.

Thanks again for the input!

I think to fly it with Saito FA-325 radial. It fits perfect inside of the cowling. Anyone have experience with this stuff ?

Yes it will fit and theres video on YouTube. There is a Japanese modeller flying this combo in one video I watched. Its not fast just adequate enough to fly around scale like.
Better option is the Saito 84FG.

Hi,

Can anyone confirm that the stock cowl included with the ARF is polyester resin and not epoxy?

It is indeed polyester, pretty thin polyester at that.

@YA
Yes and very thin. If you cut it expect it change over time with the heat, even the edges of the head opening changed.
If you looked at my old post regarding the cowl flap mod I did what happened over time was the segments flattened out. If I did that mod again I would sand and back them with epoxy and carbon fiber so they keep the shape once cut.

Yes, I have flown one with the 325 in it. On a nice cool day, it is great. Once the temperature goes up, the performance really suffers. Vertical is limited and take offs must be allowed to build up speed before you start your climb.

After installing the dummy radial the muffler was touching the cowl, which required the cut

Swordsn,

Is it an optical illusion or is your cowl not sitting straight on the fuselage in those pics?
