bomberfield. we can get 150 plus pilots and a couple of thousand spectators. the event starts on a thursday. however, there is open flying earlier during the week. the 2000spectator day is saturday. we get several hundred on friday. we also do a model show on thursday morning for the special needs children of the local school districts. not to mention the ptsd wounded warriors. we have matching trainers donated and give them to each warrior. we give them some flying lessons and give them the model. the club then makes them honarary members for the following year. this event is done a week or so before the big show, but at noon on saturday during the lunch break, we present them with their models and honor them publicly. come join us. there is plenty of local media coverage too.

Don't forget the Rhinebeck Jamboree at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in Rhinebeck, NY (abut 80 miles N of NYC in the Hudson Valley). This year will be our 47th time the event has been run. It's held at the field established by the late Cole Palen, with the skies being shared with a wonderful collection of pioneer era, WW I, and golden age, full scale planes. Models of planes that flew (or tried to fly) in those eras are welcome. It will take place September 6-8. Though I reported only 68 pilots in my writeup last year, we actually had over 100 registrants, and typically have that number or more. See the reports and pictures on the Mid Hudson RC Society web page for more information. We have a lot of fun, a good selection of vendors, prizes, and competitions. We regularly get world class models, as well as some best efforts beaters. Register on line, and come and have fun!!

RE: What/Where are the largest Warbird events?
Hey George,
I have been to both and both are awesome events.
DOGS lost al ot of warbrids due to the aerobatic program doing it's thing. Jets have become anothe rmain attraction at DOGS. The keen thing about the DOGS event is the spectator attendance. On Friday for the airshow you will have around 1,000 - 2,000 spectators. On saturday you will have closer to 6,000 - 7,000 spectators. All of these are new to the hobby and a great place to show the sport.
Indiana Warbids is more of a classic and warbird scale fly in. A small airshow at mid day is something that goes very well. Linda Crooks runs a crazy tight ship and does an outstanding job. No where near the spectators at the Indiana Warbird event although still a great time.

DOGS is on the schedule, but I'll be trying to make it to Muncie someday.
Thanks again!

While it is not restricted to Warbirds Only, It is the premier event in RC,"Top Gun", is the Scale Event for the Best Modelers and Aircraft in our hobby. 90 plus pilots and the finest Warbirds as well as interesting Civilian Planes, and Jets you would ever see. If you haven't seen it before it's worth the trip to Lakeland, Florida ,first week in May. jmpups

RE: What/Where are the largest Warbird events?
Seeing Top Gun and flying in it, are two different things. Joe Blow from Idaho is not gonna fly at top gun. Too intimidating and by invite only. About 1/2 the planes there are targets, and not a Warbird. Great place to watch people that can build, but can't fly for the carnage that most surely will come.
Delaware 09 was the biggest I have seen and flown at. I flew on Friday with 33 WW1 airplanes, with all of them 1/4 scale or BIGGER in that gaggle. I was the second plane up on takeoff, and the second from last to land on that flight. Mark from Balsa usa bounced right over me to be the last one down. That rush lasted days. No mid air mishaps on that day. 26 on Saturday, with one midair(slight) and a crash on takeoff. Must have been 150 pilots there and about 350 planes in all. 1200 miles to drive it for me.
Warbirds over the Rockies is one of my top pics though. 150 to 170 pilots and 300+ planes there too. 900 mile drive for me also. Weather is always perfect.
By far the one to be at is right here where I live, up in the great white north in (Southern?) Minnesota at Owatonna for the Northern Alliance Military fly in. Should name it Upper Mississippi Warbirds. Mostly Warbirds, but alot of "classic" so that we don't alienate or hurt someones feelings.... No child left behind.
Hospitality CAN"T be beat. Sorry Texas and Oklahoma.
Tim and Karen and alot of vols really make you feel like you need to move here. Held in one of the three months it doesn't snow here(2nd weekend in Aug). Food like you wont believe. Best sweet corn in the country. Sorry Iowa. Grass like your cozy blanky. Again, sorry Texas and Oklahoma. 60's at night, with temps usually in the low 80's in the day, but can get to the century mark. We might have Mosquito's but we dont have anything poisonous, like snakes or fire ants(TX,OK).
They probably get 140 to 160 pilots also with a range of planes numbering around 300. Size doesn't matter here(sorry Karen). Layed back is the norm. Fly whatever you bring is ok.
They have a simple 3 "P" rule here.
"NO POLITICS,"
"NO PREACHING,"
"NO RICKS,"
I cant believe they let me fly there.
Here are a few pics to wet your appetite. And NO, that is not a Bill Hemple Cub ARF. It's BIGGER!
Thanx Rebel

*DISCLAIMER* It doesn't have to strictly be warbirds, but since I don't have much visibility in the warbird scene, I'm trying to find the larger events you guys attend.
Derrick,
I'll check it out, thanks!
Regarding TG, I know all about it, but not what really what I'm looking for.
Rebel,
I'd love to make DE, but it conflicts with KY Jets. I wish they would move one of the dates![]

George,
Some of us are going to make it down to Va Beach this October for the dawn patrol there. Have you been to that one? I was born in Norfolk, then I moved down to Kempsville area.
I went to Kempsville High when J.R. Reed was there. Then I moved out to the beach on the sw corner of 28th and Artic, and lived at the "block" for 10 years.
I have proof you can survive on beer and Cho's pizza only. I did it... Best Pizza in the US!!!
