Default GP P-6E Hawk bashed to be a P-1

I have all the components to build a Great Planes P-6E Hawk. I have one that I have had for maybe 5 years, my all time favorite RC airplane. Mine is powered by a Power 160 outrunner and performs awesome. I put the spare kit on RCU but havent had and reasonable offers. Well, I dont know that I want another hawk just like the one I have, but.... I am considering bashing the new P-6E to become a P-1. After studying many images, I believe it would not be tough to do and I would end up with a very seldom modeled plane without months of building. I have a set of plans for a P-1, close to the same size as the hawk, I can enlarge them to use as a guide. So far, looks like I would have to modify the main gear and the cowl. Otherwise, both aircraft have a very similar shape. I would strip the covering from the unassembled Hawk. I would recover with Solartex. As far as the landing gear, I could bend some wire and add some aerodynamic wood or aluminum tubing. The nose would be the most work. I would not use the cowl that comes with the kit, but build a blended cowl into the fuselage for a more scale look. Part of it would have to be removeable to install the outrunner and a battery access hatch to install the two 5 cell Lipos. Curently considering the bashing, anyone familiar with the P-1? Open to ideas.
Denny

Good friend and fellow One Eighth Air Force member Jay Steward did something similar to what you are considering Denny. It looks great and definitely is a bit different than all the other ARF Hawks as can be seen in the photo below.

Sorry Alan, that's all I have. The picture was taken during the Spring 2011 One Eighth Air Force event and there may be other photos on the OEAF web site: http://www.oeaf.org/smf/index.php?action=media
