I'm just finishing mine up as of today, I just need to spray the blue canopy frame with the same flat lustercoat clear so it all matches, then it's complete.

this is what it looks like when your rx fails on down wind. when i say the rx fails i dont mean go into fail safe i mean the rx stops working and it wont rebind after the fact. its a total loss. but now i have a h9 mustang on order to do the same power and prop with. i got 140mph with the corsair should be able to get faster with the mustang

Damn.

Sorry to see this, Kalzone. You did a good job on the plane and the videos were inspiring.

KIrk,
Thanks for your info on adding micro gallons when you glass.
Years back I used to add them to the K&B primer that I used and the surface before sanding would look like Stucco. After a few rounds of sanding however the surface would be unbelievably smooth and hard. I might try your method with using Varathane on my next project as it seems to offer the best of both worlds, epoxy and water base...

Thanks
paul

I just sprayed a coat of lustercote flat clear over the ultracote.

I also had a set of vinyl graphics made off of the original clear plastic one that come in the kit.

Ok Greg-
I would have sworn you glassed and painted it ! You just took a nice looking ARF and made it look much more scale in my opinion. I didn't even know you could spray lustrecote over the ultracote. I wonder how durable the clear will be about not wanting to peel when the covering sags some ?
Thanks-Mike

Thanks. I covered the wing with one sheet of glass cloth. What you are seeing is the glass cloth between the rib caps. After sanding, the cloth will be removed between ribs. Last night and this morning I sanded the wings. The photo below shows one wing with the cloth removed and one just before removing the cloth.

Thanks Paul. I learned the micro balloons trick from a guy who built pylon racers. He knew a lot of tricks on building light and strong. Glad to pass on the knowledge.

Hey mike it seems to hold up pretty well. I already have had to re-shrink the covering with a heat gun in some places. As long as you are careful enough it stays on there alright.
I have put masking tape on it for a little bit and it doesn't get pulled off when i remove the tape so it's pretty durable.

Kirk,

I had planned on doing the same thing you are doing with glassing and then covering the rib area with fabric. But then i realized it was just an ARF and i didn't want to invest that much time into something i really didn't build.
Yours should look sharp though. I can't wait to see the final result,it could just force me to strip this one anyway.

Chris i only added the bazillion rivets after a year of flying the Carf P-47 because i just wasn't satisfied with the way it looked..

Sooooooo maybe by next year i will change my mind on the corsair and turn it into a scale winning contestant. !!!!
