Hi
For about the last month I've been working with Kelvin at Keleo Creations on installing the Saito FG-84 engine with his radial exhaust ring.
Kelvin designed an engine mounting box that replaced the existing firewall. By installing the engine mounting box this made the installation a lot easier. The engine with the exhaust ring now fits in the cowling without exposing the rocker arm covers.
Tom
P.S. I’m off to Toledo for the weekend….

Folks, I just had one of my Robart Down and Locked electric motors give up the ghost. I am now considering changing horses midstream and putting in a set of Sierra mains. I know others have mentioned it here but wanted to know if they are a direct replacement for the Robart or does it take a lot of modification to get them in the mounts? I am not afraid of the work, just tired and disappointed and do not want to agonize over this. Any help = greatly appreciated.

Another Robart failure huh. Mine crapped out and it was just sitting on the bench. Though, I contacted Robart and let them know I felt like their stuff was junk and I could barely trust it sitting on the ground never mind in the air, and they had advised that at least in terms of the tailwheel actuator, they are out of stock everywhere because they are in the process of updating the design to have a more beefy case. So they will be sending me a replacement ASAP, but still have to wait about 3 weeks to receive it (end of April approx). No problems with the operation of the mains at all yet after a good ~40-50 test cycles.

I called Robart today to ask some questions about availability and apparently all their techs are at a show and won't be back in until next week. They are supposed to call me back next week.. If they are updating the design maybe I'll hold off making a decision until next week.

I am looking into Century Jet retracts as well. Feelers are out on that. Anyone have experience with them in this plane? I have dealt with Bruce for many years, so it isn't a question of quality or service, just if anyone has experience loading them into this plane with ease or difficulty?
I don't like being in this research mode for the best unit when I already have one....but, it is what it is.

Crap, I keep hearing what junk the Robart units are... I think that's the last straw for me I will have to go with something else as well. I haven't ordered retracts yet because I keep reading stuff like this about the Robarts. I saw somewhere I think in this thread someone had pics of the Sierra gear. Hard to keep it straight which thread because I've been reading all of them that I can find on this plane.
All the Robart guys are here at TOLEDO this week so we can talk to them in person. I drove 13 hours to be here.
good luck!

I just saw a terrific looking TFGS Corsair registered in the sport scale warbirds section!
They lost a transformer before lunch Friday and the entire show has been dark since.
Still waiting to see if they have it fixed for Saturday!

Hi Tom.
Well,I can see that you have put your "wood-working skills" to great use !!!! .............very nice "conversion-kit".............very well done.....just a bit too late for me to use..
I guess that you have "moved" the Saito nearer to the C/L of the mounting box.....correct..?,thus to allow for no cut out's required for the rocker covers...?..I assume also that you have retained the right off-set as std ..?
If not I guess that a bit of right trim will be needed to compensate for the C/L and off-set minus....?
Again,very nice job...............enjoy Toledo !!!
Cheers...................Nick (UK).

Think if you look back in the threads, you will see what every one has been using...............here in the UK,I use a "Humbrol Enamel No 15 gloss",pretty sure that there is a "Testors" equiv..?

Hi.
Has the motor stopped working.............or is it working but not driving the "screw".................?
The reason,I ask,is that I had a failure, after only a few cycles ( mine was turning, but not driving the screw )...................got in touch with Mitch at D & L..............got a reply via e-mail,shipped BOTH motors back ( expensive from the UK !! )..........problem sorted ( early " production problems " with the "retailer R***** " is all I can say !!)......also purchased a spare motor unit ( with the "post problems retro-fitted !!! ).
Just hope that all will be ok...............so far on my testings, all good....
BUT............just now seeing the "potential Tail Wheel actuator failure" has got me a little concerned..?
Kind regards....................Nick ( UK ).

Hey guys, anyone have an issue with the Robart electric tailwheel actuator?
I've yet to take the bloody thing up in the air (aside from trying to get a replacement right outer flap as mine was supplied crooked as a dogs hind leg in the box), and I was cycling the retracts as a test and "bam", I noticed some strange noises coming from the electric retracts and sure enough the "great" quality of Robart shines again... the plastic housing snapped in half on the actuator. So much for "amp out" circuitry, either that or the plastic housing is extremely weak.
Anyone know of any metal cases for these, or other solutions you guys have used?

Well, this has me worried a little..............how many cycles have you done with the actuator....?
I think that I will remove mine and make some kind of reinforcing plate / set-up for this actuator............the other thing that could be a problem is with your "geometry" / set-up for the push rod etc.............I found out on my set-up,that you have to get this exactly correct, otherwise the push rod will be "bending" and hence putting un-wanted "loads" on the system............both in the retract and down positions............???
Just a thought............?
Kind regards...................Nick (UK).

Hi All.
Well,I think that I have now finished my "build",apart from the addition of decals etc and the Rx wiring up............Have just finished my cockpit,so thought I would post some photo's.
Just a few more litres of fuel to run through the 84 on it's test stand before it gets bolted to the fuzz..........
I have my "sensor" switch ( on / off for Rx ) mounted in a side panel in the cockpit, just below the gun-sight I have the "socket" for the "Tacho" readout and also just to the right of that, there is a small hole for the ignition LED "on" to fit into.
Kind regards..............Nick (UK).

Nick, awesome work on the cockpit! Love it
In regards to the tailwheel actuator, I've temporarily fixed it by beefing up the case with an outer 'box' glued around the plastic housing, with wire clamps securing it further. It should hold nicely now, but do not that Robart has admitted fault with the design and are soon to release an updated unit with a metal casing versus the plastic. So not an issue at all of not getting the linkage correct; it's very easy to set by just cycling it without being connected to the tail wheel and watching where the rod/fork stops and then adjusting before connecting the pushrod to the retract.
I had probably "15" cycles on it. I noticed on mine even before it broke that the aluminum travel limiter (part that extends out of the plastic) wiggles in the plastic housing when reaching the end of the outward stroke - if you watch yours, and yours does that too you'll definitely need to beef it up but I'd beef it up regardless considering Robart has even recognized the design flaw.

This H9 Corsair with Saito 84CC Radial was flying around today at Wings Over Arizona (Yearly event at Arizona Model Aviators).
Powered the plane quite well, and sounded really nice in the process.
Just a couple photos I got of it.
