Does anyone have a picture of an installed Zenoah G62? I am looking at the DJ 72cc from mile high and they are about the same size. I would like to see how much is going to stick out of the cowling. Or, better yet, if someone has installed this engine please include some pics!

Hi all i've got a small problem in charging a 5000m NINH battery to run my on board glow i got through my LHS which is from Mcdaniels in the US.The charger im using is a Dynamite model Passport Ultra ACDC which is sold by Horizon Hobbys and according to the specs and the advice from my LHS will charge the battery..I've set it up to 0.2 @ 4.8v to slow charge over night but it false peaks after 4.5hrs at 1900ma and i'm at a loss of what to do.The engine is a Evo 777
i've been in contact with hank at Sonictronics to get a new charger that they had on there website but they're not sold anymore so i have to sort this out or it wont fly.
The aircraft is ready to start..

Was the battery completely dead when you started charging it? How do you know it isn't completely charged after the 1900 mah?

Cycle your battery via your charger.
You may be able to discharge down to a safe level and then recharge up to full capacity.

Hey guys...its been a while since I've check this thread and glad to see it's still alive!
I have begun bashing my Corsair into scale shape, stripping it down for fiber glassing, setting up dummy trim tabs and functioning booster tabs on the elev.... a novelty first used on a warbird as far as I know...
I will be making a canopy plug for the earlier birdcage version and hopefully making functioning radiator cooling fins.
I also picked up a Tamiya 1/32 plastic kit to get more accurate and detailed surface info....this kit must have around 200 parts ! I will not be building the plastic kit just using it for reference and reselling it when I'm done.
Hopefully some of these pics will help anybody else out there considering doing the same..I will be using G-62 power and Robart retracts.

AN update on my on board glow problem ive sorted out the battery charging problem and still no joy.. so sent it back to my LHS where i bought it so a tech can have a look and they have discovered an internal problem they have volts but no amps at the plug end VERY FRUSTRATING..and zero warranty..

Sorry to hear about that issue.
My friend has the same problem with the stock battery pack for the Evo 7 nitro engine.
The older NiMh cells develop internal resistance with age and while they show the voltage they can't deliver the amps. The technical solution is to zap the individual cells with high current to break down the internal crystallization and regain some capacity to discharge. It's an old racing trick for RC car guys.
The other solution is a voltage regulator and run a LiFe pack. Hard to find a regulator capable of 21A but only 1.5 V unless you make it. I've seen something on EBay but not sure if it will work as expected.
And another solution is to change over to a custom 2 & 5 cylinder dual glow systems, very spendy.
And last is a 7 cyl glow system from McDaniels I believe, runs about $150 I think.

Hey Guys... I got my system from Mircrosens in Austria...who supplied the ignition system for the original Seidel 7 & 9 cyl. engines from Germany before they sold out to UMS.
I haven't tried mine out yet but the reports are very reliable....just another option.
Contact them in English...they will respond fairly quickly..

The battery pack can be built new from individual NiMh cells with high capacity. It's hard to find fresh cells which is what's needed here. Much of the inventory is old but new in stock because LiPo packs are mainstream now.
If you can find 5000+ mah cells for race cars you can build a pack and it will have very solid cells.

Whats issue with the electronic system?

the battery pack is a 5000ma pack supplied by mcdaniels which i discovered had some surface rust around the connections which was disappointing but has been rectified..regarding the electronic system im not sure yet..
im looking into a different system at the moment..or a spark ignition..

Great work Eric!
Its inspiring to see the modifications.
I have been very interested in making one of my Corsairs into a F4U-1 with the bird cage canopy.
I assume you're filling in the flap step as well.

At least you have nice weather to work on it. It's been cool and icy here in Minneapolis.

You might think seriously about CH ignitions. I have a Saito 450r3 that I never could get to run well until I broke down and got the ignition. Now the cylinders are much more balanced and the engine runs well enough to fly my Corsair.

There's a gas conversion out of the U.K. I think it's Morris Motors. That will take care of the issues with the ignition!

As I work to get the new motor installed one other issue one the plane has been concerning me.
The guys that put the plane together spent a lot of time with chartpak tape for the panel lines. Some had come off but after sitting for a couple months waiting on the engine a lot more has come off. I have no experience with it. Seems like I should put a clear coat over it or something. The finish is otherwise the factory covering, with some weathering.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Those guys went to a lot of trouble putting the panel lines on and I would like to keep them.

You say " The Guys " ...put the Chartpak tapes on....so I imagine they have some experience putting panel lines on planes? I've been building scale models for over 25 yrs and have tons of experience with adhesives and tapes. One thing for sure that you can not expect is that a 1/64 or 1/32" wide tape with that little adhesive can be expected to last very long at all !!..sounds like to me you got duped. You would have been better off with a thin permanent ink pen ( magic marker ) for the same effect that would not peel off .
If you really want to keep them on, test on of your wings ( underside preferably ) if they have tapes, and spray them with Rustoleum clear varnish ( or similar ) as a test.
This will probably work, but again, I would certainly test on just one wing to see how it holds up.
FYI: most scale warbird pilots attach Chartpak tapes on the fiberglassed / primered surface ( not monocote ) and then pray on more primer to build up to the edge of the tapes. They then remove the tapes which then reveal a nice panel line. Another method is to primer and scrape the panel lines along a straight edge with a thin scraper of sorts like a hinge slotter tool.

I am presently making the male buck for the F4U-1 Birdcage version to be vacuum formed by Chad Veich...will post a few pics and let you know how it turns out. And "yes" will be filling in the foot hold in the right flap..
FYI: I have counted about 6 different canopy designs for the Corsair through all variants !
