Hangar 9 60cc Corsair

The "guys" are some of the officers of The National Association of Scale Areomodelers (NASA),
Mike Barbee, and John Boyko are some of the guys who I know worked on it.
I won the plane complete and ready to fly, they raffled it off at the NATS.
That was an AWESOME phone call.
As noted in earlier posts they did not just slap an ARF together, there are lots of very nice additions.
All I had to do was balance it, break in the engine and fly it.
If I could have figured out the Futaba radio I would have stuck with it, but I fly Spektrum so I switched it out.
I did not feel like the FG60-r3 motor was enough so I am switching to the FG90-r3
I really do not feel duped in any way, I am very appreciative of the significant effort that they put into the model for NASA!
I will definitely get in their next Raffle

Has anybody used the "Sonic Tronic Hidden Hinges" SOT 130.. that Hangar 9 recommends in their manual for gear doors?
I ordered them but they look pretty small and fragile with little glue area or space for screw attaching.
Can't seem to find any other beefed up hinges online either.

As far as the stick on panel lines you do have another option considering the plane is now assembled.
Purchase a flexable ruler fine tip sharpie ( silver ) and test your drawing skills on the bottom stab area.
It's not Top Gun scale by any means but can really have a dramatic effect when done in the appropriate manner.

I saw a set of sierra's on a wildhare hellcat (85" wing) and I thought they looked great, but I have no info on them of rather or not they would fit the Corsair. Along with the drag brace, the mounting brackets also appear larger and have a 6 bolt pattern. Does anyone have any info? I may try to call sometime, but that may prove difficult...

Spitfire..I was trying to get info. from Sierra on a landing gear that would work for the H9 Corsair last year...called him, left messages, tried his email...absolutely no response what so ever... thank you very much!
I've heard this from many other pilots also...apparently he has such a large market share that he can do what he wants which is his perogative...
As I understand it if, he has it in stock and you have your credit card handy your golden......getting replacement parts however from him is like pulling teeth apparently.....so I decided to stick with Robarts for my first retract experience to be on the safe side.
I also wonder that with the Hellcat the leg would probably be too long in any case to be practical with the Corsair.

I don't have a good close up of the Corsair gear but I've got one of the Sierrra gear in an AeroWorks P-51 and the struts are pretty much identical. A BUNCH tougher than the Robarts......

So I have the Keleo engine box built and ready to glue into the Corsair. One question though.
In their instructions they note that the box should sit 1/8" back from the four fuselage sides.
In my case the cowling was installed for the Fg60-r3.
When I get everything lined up and adjusted with the cowling on the engine box is about 1/4" further forward than the Keleo instructions indicate.
I can fix it by trimming the mounting blocks on the cowl (there were pieces added to move it out) or just leave it.
I do not think leaving a bit forward will make any difference and I will not have to modify the cowl.
Since this is my first experience with a large plane I thought I better check to make sure?
Thank
Kevin

I went ahead finalized the installation of the Keleo engine box.
I was pretty excited about the install until I realized the fuel tank would no longer fit.
If I had built this from the beginning it would not be much of a problem.
All the radio gear is installed and to fit the tank would require kind of a major redo of the radio installation.
Read back through the thread and seen this problem discussed.
The problem is the length of the tank. There is plenty of room just not the right shape for standard tanks.
It seems a simple solution might be to install two 12 or 16oz tanks.
I have a couple and they fit nicely in the space.
I know the heli guys routinely use a header tank.
They also use muffler pressure I think.
I assume it would work with the gasoline engines but?
Would I need to add pressure to make this work?
The Keleo exhaust ring does have a nipple but I seem to recall this was for smoke?
Any idea of the flight times I might expect with the Fg90-r3, I assume about the same as the fg84?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Kevin

I ended up with 2 14oz tanks. They go in easy.
I did ask Kelvin about the nipple on the exhaust ring and it is for pressure so I will hook that up.
Once I got the engine bolted up and fit the cowl the number one cylinder was just touching. I could pass a piece of card stock between the the other two and the cowl.
I added some shims to the lower cowl mounts and this seemed to help.
I have had the engine on and off several times as worked through things.
I had been installing the engine with the the plane upside down and then noticed a slight play in the bolts so I held the engine up (down) and tightened it up.
Now there is space all around. It is a close fit.

I had the needle settings as the manual indicated. Was just getting ready to adjust the needle when it started making noise.
Horizon says they will take care of it.

I just ran two tanks through it so no tips really. It started easily(once I hooked the battery up).
Tried starting it by hand with no luck, so I bought a big starter.
When I ordered the starter I got an optical switch so I could kill the motor from the transmitter.
As I was hooking the switch up I noticed the battery was not hooked to the ignition box.
ran it rich and never tried to tune it.
Never flew with it.

So what's the consensus on the 3 Blade Belia Corsair prop on the Saito 84/90? I ordered a 2 Blade Falcon 24x12 for break-in but obviously the Belia is the better looking option. Are you guys flying with it or is the performance just not there? I don't mind spending the money if I can use it but wouldn't mind saving the $100 if I won't be happy with it.
