Default Military Aviation Museum Pungo May Close

I just read this story in the Virginian Pilot:

http://hamptonroads.com/2013/06/va-b...ane-collection

This is a great museum and would be very sad if it closes. He has a great (and huge) collection of WW1 and WWII planes that you can get up close, poke your head in, and take all the pics you want. I go a bunch, but if you ever want to see it, you should plan a trip pretty soon.

The B-17 is scheduled to leave this weekend I believe, the FW-190 will be soon. They are going to the Tillamook air museum in Oregon. Some of the other planes including the Mosquito are rumored to be going to Rod Lewis(owner of Rare Bear and many other warbirds) in Texas.

Sorry to hear this.
I am only about 90 miles from there but so far haven't made it.
Just called SWMBO and put in a request to go up there this Saturday...

There are no words to describe how much I enjoyed going to the museum every chance I could. The first time I heard talk along these line, it literally made me sick to my stomach....[:'(] I know Jerry Yagen and I have been one of the few people lucky enough to get a ride in his Dragon Rapide. This is indeed a shame. I, for one, will miss going to the museum on a monthly basis when/if they close.

Take care,
David

Shocking and sad news for us plane lovers. I was just there a few months ago at Warbirds over the Beach.. Jerry has such a great collection its just amazing. I'll miss the opportunity to see his collection if it's sold off and the museum closes.

ORIGINAL: STUKA BARRY

I WANT HIS CORSAIR!!!!!!!!
We'll have to flip for it!

In the "This has to be BS" category - The first time I was there, one of the tour guides was telling the story that they found the Corsair in a barn somewhere in the midwest. A lady had bought it for her son after the war as war surplus because her son had always wanted to learn to fly. He never learned, and the corsair sat in the barn till she died. Sounds like one of those urban legend stories....

Hey Ampeater,

As crazy as this sounds, I was sitting in the museum one day and I heard the same story, but not from one of the Docents, it was from one of the pilots. I'm pretty sure it's true..........[X(]

Take care,
David
