RE: Scale cockpit - Wow
You can't see it......but that new wood goes clear to the front of the leading edge where it meets a length of 1/8 ply epoxyed to the back of the leading edge.
Be carefull when drilling that front hole so as not to MISS your new wood as it is going to hold the front down.
In a really bad landing you will break the Robart plastic locks before hurting the wing....hopefully.
Which is what I want as I can replace one of them at the field. ha-ha

Mine is starting season 8. It was well over 500 flight. It has a G-62 and a racing prop. (138mph)
Last fall I had to pull a servo out of the wing for service. I noticed my shear webs are install incorrectly. should I tear into the wing to correct this?
I'm joking of course. They are wrong in mine and I too have not heard anyone breaking a wing in flight.
As for the gear mount problems. Have you guys seen the way most pilots land these things. No amount of glue or wood will stop them from tearing them to peices.
I get asked all the time for tips on landing. I can't really give them any, other than to learn how to FLY and LAND. It's not a hard plane to fly or land.
Yes, I have ripped the gear out twice in 7 years Hey nobody is perfect
Here is a series of shot from Sat. This was a take off BTW. (THIS IS NOT ME i'm behind the camera) This is common for this guy. THE GEAR DID STAY IN HOWEVER

I built and flew my P51 6 years ago and I'M still flying it. This was my first giant scale plane. I did not do any modifying and like some guys in this thread I knocked the gear out during the learning process. This is a great flying plane. I now have the p47 and the p40,they are also great flyers.

P40 W/DLE55
P47 W/ DLE55

It's like riding a bicycle. Once you learn you never forget it. Lol. I took my plane out the other day first time in over a year and after I got the jitters out she took to the sky perfectly and had a blast tearing up the skies. Good luck and have fun

I am wanting to buy Aerotech P-51 pylons and drop tanks if anyone has anything to sell. I am starting my build and I believe I have searched every page of the internet without success. (Aeroworks aren't droppable). Please e-mail or pm if you are willing to sell. [:-]

Wow, what a great day to be flying. Hey Mike, it was really great to see you and Diane at our field. You Johnny and Toni, were tearing up the skies with your warbirds..
It takes skill and precision to fly warbirds like you guys do. You guys make it look so easy.
I am really proud to be a part of your warbird pilot group.
Cheers boys, and keep the faith...

2 years ago I finished my Top-Flite Giant P51 kit with a Da50, I thought that the P51 would be harder to fly and to land than my Corsair
in fact the P51 is easier to fly and to land than the corsair, I really love my P51
here's a pic

Hi Airnondas
They say once you ride a bicycle , you never forget .
The same is true with Warbirds , once you land it , you never forget it .
Fly it like you stole it , balls to the wall , !!!!!!!!!

A quick question about elevator and rudder...
For those of you that glassed the bird, how did you cove the elevator and rudder fins?
Did you pulled fiberglass over it? did you sheeted with balsa? did you use some kind of film and painted over it?
Any help it is appreciated....
Thanks
Fabio

Fabio your last suggestion is the usual practice.
Cover the control surfaces with Solartex (or similar) add reinforcement tapes etc and paint.
The end result will have a great scale effect.

Has anyone added nav lights to this airplane? I have been looking for the clear lenses but haven't had any luck. I have also been looking for the small fairings that go on the top of the wing for the ailerons. It's not a must, but I thought they would be easy enough to add and would look great.
I have been working on my fiberglass skills this past couple weeks. I will be adding a radiator exhaust scoop and hatches for my on/off switches. pics to follow...
One last thing is that I have been in the works with a certain drop tank/pylon manufacturer some of you know. I don't want to put this individual's name out yet as we are in the infant stages of making ordnance for this scale of airplane. It will take a while for results as we are both very busy, but there has been some progress. I'll keep you posted as I know others have expressed interest in drop tanks/bombs ever since aerotech went out of business.
