Update today - the LED is fixed and back in place. I have patched a couple of _ boo boo's > that happened during moving and construction the last 6 months. Air test was great 1 hour and no air loss - I say that is tight.
Remounted the engine with some rubber vibration washers and put Loctite on everything.
Changed the choke control rod and servo around so that I had no strain. The stupid servo kept buzzing and still does some.
I need to check some threads and see why they buzz even without a arm on them.
Anyway, will try and get her outside today for taxi test but not feeling too hot so may have to wait until tomorrow or this weekend.

Taxi test day
Today I had the P-40 out and had everything all nice and neat and the cowl was on. I filled the tank, checked everything and started the plane and it ran fine for a few minutes then died. Went to try and start it and it would start then just die. No matter what I did it would start then just quit.
Took the cowl off, checked the choke - thought maybe it was sticking closed - it was fine. Checked the throttle - it was off just a little when going to Zero percent throttle so I made a minor adjustment to the low and high end to get it perfect.
Tried to start it again and same thing. I was really getting then thought - I did put 30 turns on the manual pump and it normally takes 52 turns to fill it completely- I will double check and see if there is any gas.
I hooked up the gas fill line and watched the gas go into the tube and started counting - 52 turns and she was full.
I guess when I was turning the first time that no gas was actually going into the tank. Next time I will fill it to the top!!!!!!!!!!
So, when the gas was in the tank she starts right up and ran the remainder of the day just fine on idle and WOT. Did some taxi test up and down the street to get the tail wheel gear in alignment.
Man, this is my first gas plane and does this 50cc have some get up and go. The first time I gave it a little too much she wanted to jump into the air. I had to dial down the tail gear servo so it wasn't so responsive and I think I will add some EXPO to it as it is very touchy and I don't want that when taking off or landing. I will also put it on a switch so that when I taxi it will have full right/left but when ready for take off I will hit a switch and turn it way down so that I don't over correct during take off or landing. Maybe the Expo will get rid of it so I will have to play around some.
I did turn it way down and found it much easier to keep it straight. I had to turn it back up when turning the plane 180.
Here is the link to some video - if I can download it.

That is a cool video, taxing test on the street - awesome! What is that funny green stuff you are walking on, I only see white around me, very envious today.
I did the weight and balance today on my P-40. Lead needed was 1lb, 4 oz. for a C of G balance point 3.5" behind the leading edge with undercarriage in the up position. Glad I moved the servoes forward.
Thus the total all up weight, with no fuel is 24 lb. 11 oz. (Fuselage is 15# - 11oz including the lead, the wing weighs 9# - 0oz).
This is comparable to what the other Skyshark P-40 are coming in at and in the same ball park weight as my Top Flite P-51's so I'm ok with the weigh.
Engine runs are next, maybe in May the snow will be gone, it's been a brutal winter in Winnipeg.
cheers - ken

Looks nice Kenair!!! Your weight is right on from what I have read. I am still a little heavier than most but it is the retracts and hatch I added. After I get a bunch of flights on her and I get ready to detail her then I will probably pull everything out from inside and start from scratch. That way I can add the cockpit kit and all the little goodies and move everything forward so I won't need very much Balance Weight.
I had a few accidents which caused some damage to the wing so I had to patch a couple of places. That is okay since I will be putting on a new paint job when I do the detailing.
From now I probably will only purchase kits. It took me so much time to make the mods that it will be much easier to start with the kit and make all the changes and add everything before the fuselage is closed or there are items in the way.
I did have an small issue with the tail wheel steering so I figured that out today and programmed the TX so that I can have good tail wheel steering and when I am ready for take off I will reduce the steering so that it isn't so sensitive.
Rain today and next week so I hope in a couple of weeks the weather will stay warm and dry so I can get on our flying field.
This P-40 is going to be fun to fly and fast........

Bosco - Dino is a great guy. I have chatted with him and Gary. Gary said he was bringing his Corsair. Did you see the plane?
I am glad your P-40 flew so good. Did you get any flights in?
I wish I lived your direction. We have Warbirds over the Rockies in the fall and one show in Las vegas but it doesn't draw all the big flyers like Dino.
Post video if you have it.

The corsair was incredible he flew it two or three time's it was incredible,
It was the star of the event,
If you look to the left of the photo that shows all the pilots trailers you will see the corsair being assemble,

Thank you very much Bosco - Gary is a great guy. I have been reading his builds since I came on here.
I wish I had 1/100 of his talent.
I would love to have that plane but I know it is very expensive. The engine I think is over $ 4,000+ so you have to wonder what it cost to buy one from Gary. You would really get the highest quality of work possible so it would be worth it.
No comparisons to my little plane .................

Bosco - I have a new trailer that I will be setting up this year so in the next year or so I hope to come out that way to Joe Nall and / or Top gun so I will put your club on my list to stop by.
Might be moving to Texas soon, so if that happens I will start coming to all the events around your area. Right now it is a long haul from Utah.

A magnificent spring day in Winnipeg, the P-40 was started in the back yard for an engine test run, the DL-50 ran good. 6900 rpm on a menz 22x8.
Only two snags, undercarriage goes up on the down switch ( need to reverse dat) and the fuel tank was still half fuel when the pump started to suck air on emptying.
Hopefully a test flight in two or three weeks!

I needed 20 ounces of lead, it is on the inside of the cowl ring, moving the servoes from the tail to up against the fuel tank saved on the lead. The total all up weight, with no fuel is 24 lb. 11 oz. (Fuselage is 15# - 11oz including the lead, the wing weighs 9# - 0oz).

kenair - she looks sweet!! Get some pics and post them for us and also the maiden video.
I was out at my field today and It is just about ready. I flew my little spitfire with no problems but the ground is just a little soft. I think the P-40 would be fine so if we don't get lots of rain this week I will take her out there and do some taxi text at speed.
I want to get a good handle on how much she pulls left with some speed.
