There are a lot of holes in this fuse!!! LOL! Every vent and inlet is made for air!!! Even the full scale exhaust has holes in them for venting. We will know soon enough! If I have to make a large hole on the bottom of the front fuselage I will for inlet air. I think I am good on exhaust!! It is the inlet side of thing I am worried about. They do say three times more outlet than inlet are needed though.

You got that right Lazun and I will probably be thanking Macchi for every one of them when it comes time to cool the rear cylinder of the 3w-150! However I will "outsourcing" the job of molding and laying up the cowl on my 202 build. I'm sure my skills and patience will be taxed to the limit just making the plug! Magnificent work on your build. You obviously picked up a thing or two from your father.

The latest.
Canopy is made out of aluminum. Will be finishing up soon. Not a full cockpit, leaving it all open inside for circulation. All inlets and outlets are open as the full scale for circulation of air. Will be ready for panels and rivets soon!!

2x2 Aluminum printing press sheets at the junk yard. The K&S stuff is no good for this use. This stuff works easy and is lighter than plastics and fiberglass!!! Not sure why we do not see it used more in the hobby. It also provides the right effect. However, I learned from my dad it is easy once you know how.

I grinded steel to the shape I needed. This became the punch tool for the panels just like the real one was done. That is also how I made the washers and many other parts on the plane. I have SIG rivets too from the day.

Last one before paint!! I have been practicing the "smoke ring" pattern. I have to nail this one, otherwise it will be pointless and look AWFUL and terrible!!! It has to be this scheme though!! It is what made the Macchi's unique. It will be of the 2 Squadriglia of the ANR "Vespe Arrabiate" 2-1. 2-1 though has the flag in the white band.
Chad your Macchi 202 is unbelievable!!!! It is a perfect outline!! I fudged mine in many areas. I was going to just build a sport scale one and then I went a little crazy. Should of did what you did from the start. I'm in for a short kit if you ever sell one. Beautiful work!!!

Folks have been asking about the sand collector. Here is how I did it. You need to make the tools for it.
Here are the three tool set pieces I made. Two rings made on the lathe and a plastic rod the same diameter you would need.
This is the ring machined with the correct curvature in it.
This is the same ring slid on the plastic rod.
This other ring has a 64th lip machined into it. So the aluminum with sit up against it as seen with a small scrap aluminum piece.
It goes right up against it.
Then you slide the ring onto the rod.
Tighten it down. The aluminum piece I have here is a little small scrap. You are going to need to have it go around the rod.
Lift it up a bit.
Then push the ring towards the fixed ring to form it.
Then mold it down with your fingers. Note in this photo the end slipped out a bit. Make sure it stays in up against the 64th lip.
Pull apart.
Then I riveted and glued each one in place to a wood formed scoop.
It looks pretty convincing. The real one was not perfect either. Chad let me know if you come up with a better idea with this part that would be easier.

I do not know what I was thinking that I was ready to paint!!! Programing, last minute setups, panels, rivets and sizing the decals took forever. Now I am ready for paint!!! LOL!!!! I hope!!!
