OK Steve.
At the first you have to make some frame. I made it from pieces of wood. The frame must be similar size as a model which you want to make. Also you can make a frame with botton.
At the second time you wax the model (M.G. in my case) and dip it into casting resin. After that you will wait than the resin going harden.
After some hour (time depends on the type of resin) you take out the model (machine gun) and form is done.
Now you can make (cast) your machine guns. You must wax the form before every use. You use a beeswax.
If you want to make only one copy, you can also use a modeling clay for a form.

Here is ammo belt from Williams Brothers. This ammo belt is 1/6, so it is little bit bigger, but I couldn´t find any one smaller. I think, that difference between scale of fuselage and ammo belt won´t so visible. I´m thinking if the belts should hang from the MGs free in space or the end of belt is somewhere other.

I made holes into machine guns and set them for ammo belts. In the pictures are not the belts glued, but they hang free in MGs. Probably I won´t lead them into ammo box, because the box is just glued and it would be too difficult make holes for ammo belts in this box. I should make them earlier.

Rear machine guns are completely done. Last morning I attached side shields and ammo belts, of course. Side shield I made from piece of plastic bar and glued a pin on the back. I made a hole in the machine gun for this pin and glued it.
When I was painting the shields, I also painted the barrels for the front machine guns.

This is info about the history of the Gilbert Islands during the war as told from the Japanese side.
It's a little lengthy, but you can tell from the info, that the Japanese sent planes from Rabaul and the Marshall Islands to intercept the American forces. As the Gilbert Islands were a sea plane base, you may have seen some of their floatplanes based from there. You're most likely to encounter just about anything that the Japanese had it seems like. Both their Army and Navy aviators could have been involved.
Good question!

I found some other website: http://www.pacificwrecks.com/airfields/kiribati/tarawa/
There is note about 204, 281 Kokutai, both had Zero´s and 755 Kokutai, which had G3M Nell.
In attached pictures are definitely wrecks of Zero´s.
I think that Gilbert islands fight was too soon for Ki-84.

This warbird has very short nose, because in the real it has radial engine. This is the reason why it needs some weight in the nose. RX and ignition batteries will be above the engine on the red mounting and electronic ignition will be on the right side of engine opposite the silencer.
