Count me in. Just picked up a NIB Hangar 9. Will be modifying it with full cockpit, flaps, and a target tug/drone paint scheme. Either the blue an yellow or red and yellow scheme.

A man after my own heart! I chose an overall red scheme for my bird. I have another one just about ready for paint which will be all bright yellow. Love the tug/drone schemes!

Ok Brotherhood - have a dilemma. Wife is stuck deciding which scheme she wants on her Hellcat. It is an old Hangar 9 that I picked up NIB last weekend 
. Going to be a moderate bash with some added scale goodies.
However - to the question....Which Version????

I won't be offended if you "steal" my paint scheme Rob. 
Here is another all yellow one which was, I believe, a test aircraft of some sort. Note the early style national insignia. I like this one too but really like the black anti-glare panel on the target tug aircraft.

Aloha Gentlemen,
I managed to finish installing my VVRC 40cc gas twin into my ESM F6F. I've not yet modified the exhaust, but I'm still waiting on the silicone tubing to arrive. I did install the fuel tank and have all my servo, battery wires and balance weight installed and ready for flight. The VVRC Twin does not have the room in the aft part of the engine as the PTE 36cc gas engine gave me, so I had to do a little work to get every thing fit into the cowl area behind the fire wall. Its all in and tomorrow I'll fire up the engine for the first time.
I had an issue with my throttle servo and needed to change it out. I then needed to figure out how the throttle curve worked on my Airtronics 10G programing, and this was something I have never done before. It seemed that when I operated my throttle, it would go from idle to full throttle, by half the Tx stick movement. But after a couple of hours of working with the Tx and the throttle servo/carburetor, I managed to get it working the way I liked. I also learned how to do this procedure and instead of grabbing a shot gun and putting the Tx out of its misery...I figured it out... : ) Who ever writes these manuals must be from another planet...but it was worth the effort.

I was very surprised at just how smooth it was and ran it for about 30 minutes @ mostly idle, but ran it up to full power, then back down to idle, to 1/3 power. The silicone tubing arrived today, so I'll be modifying my mufflers to fit my cowl tomorrow. I'm very impressed by this engine, especially how smooth it runs.

Hello Guys I wish to become a member of this brotherhood. I picked up this Ziroli Cat started with a lot of quality workmanship put into this plane. Fiberglass fuselage which cannot be shipped to Australia with the bulk of the construction completed. Only glassing of the wings left and the painting and scale details left. I got all this for $350- AU $ which is very cheap considering the work and material already invested.

Well Chad its been almost a year and Im waiting on you to finish your gallery out so I can finish my Hellcat. Its been fun so far I hope to finish this winter so I can fly it next s[ring when the rest of the Warbirds hit the field

Finally have some time to work on the Hellcat. Started the wheels wells today. I haven't made wheel wells since a Platt Zero in the early 90's. Any suggestions on a better way to do this, i am all ears.
I am using 1/16" balsa for the liner and 3/32" shims for clearance to the tire. Basically piecing it in as it goes around.

I also picked up a NIB Hangar 9 Hellcat recently and would be interested in if it needs flaps and what modifications will be needed to add them? I am also contemplating what engine. I have some OS 4-strokes unassigned to choose from : FS-95V, 110FS-a or FS-120. Does the Hellcat tend to need nose weight in general. The question of engine power vs. weight up front. Terry

Back in post 327, I showed my Byron F6F Hellcat. I have been working on it when I need a break from making kitchen cabinets, rebuilding a kitchen, working to support the kitchen project and doing all of the other things in life that get in the way of a hobby. The pictures below don't show much progress but much has been accomplished.
The wings are now matched up to the wing stubs. After fixing the broken spars in the stubs on the fuselage, the wings did not fit flush against the wing stubs. I am not sure if that is how they were before the crash but everything was repaired to original dimensions and position. When the wings were bolted in place, they could be rocked to and fro. Also the locating pins in the wing were not solidly fitting into a hole to keep the wing secure. The gap has been filled with filled epoxy and the locating pins are now solidly fitting in holes in the wing stub to keep everything stable. The flap system has been upgraded to have separate servos for the outer flaps. The flap hinges were poorly attached originally so that was corrected with newly located hinge slots in solid wood.
The elevator Nyrods have been removed and solid wire pushrods in nylon tube housings have taken their place. Elevator slop is now gone. The fuselage at the leading edge of the horizontal stabilizer was quite flexible. Internal bracing firmed that up considerably. Also the spar on the port side horizontal stabilizer was broken so some surgery was necessary to get in and sister the spar.
The cowl was damaged slightly so repairs were made as necessary. New cowl mounting blocks were fit to the fuselage and 1/4-20 socket drive flat head bolts which are flush to the cowl surface were installed rather than the hex head nylon bolts that were there. A dummy radial engine has been obtained to dress up the cowl opening. The G62 which came with the airplane is being upgraded to RC Excel solid state ignition.
The fuselage and wings were stripped of a couple layers of paint from two different color schemes. The paint was cracked and worn so it had to be removed. The stripper damaged the surface of the fuselage in places so filling spots with spot putty was necessary. The molded panel lines on the fuselage, too, were damaged in some places so they were taped off and spot putty was applied against the tape and fresh panel lines were made. The pictures show the tape in place before sanding and removal of the tape.
About the only things I can't fix well is the canopy, I have been able to remove most of the unwanted paint but the canopy is cracked in the clear areas. Cracks under the painted areas were fixed with light weight fiberglass layed in canopy glue on the backside of the canopy. The cracks will be covered with paint. The cracks in the clear areas are obvious although they are minor. Don't know how to make them invisible.
I still need to make panel lines on the wings and stabilizer. I am only going to do the minimum for panel lines for effect. The restoring of this old Byron Hellcat is not an effort in true scale. It will be my week-end war bird which will look good from a distance. Maybe some day I'll get the bug to go more extreme in scale detail on another project.
