Default Calling P-51B experts

OK, never been much on P-51's, but I am finishing up a P-51B, early model, without the Malcolm hood canopy. I have done some research, but getting conflicting info. I know the P-51 fanatics out there will know:

On early B models, it appears the only fabric was on the rudder. I get some conflicting info that some had it on ailerons and elevators, but changed over with the D model.

Can someone clarify?

Thx

JQ

I think, A-36 and the early B's with Allison engines still had the fabric. When they went to the Merlins the fabric was gone. That's how I remember it.

All versions of the Mustang had metal ailerons and fabric rudders. The change from fabric to metal on the elevators occurred somewhere in the production of the D model. Many B models were converted to metal in the field but they all came off the production line with fabric elevators.
