Hi there,
I am also salivatingat the sight of this Spitfire. I have an FG-40 ready for a new airframe. I havenever saw Hangar 9 products. Hangar 9 image seam to reflect quality. I have oneon order and hope I get what I pay for as I feel it is a pricy piece of entitlement.
How aboutthe Main Retract: Spitfire Mk IX (EFLG625SP) 375.00 USD what justify this hi price? Anybody has viablealternative?

I had to make a shroud to cover the 6mm gap, see link below. The photos show the 6mm gap before and after the shroud is installed. I was not thrilled with the price of the E-flite retracts either, but they are well designed and they drop right in with no modificatios to the mounts and they look great!

Hi Roger,
Thank you for the info. It is a good head-up tip. I Wonder if I could gain 1,5 cm to 2,0 cm by mounting the engine mount from the Inside of the firewall.
I was thinking that there was space for an FG-40.
How much space left on the right / left side between cowl and engine?
How much weight did you add to reach acceptable CG with a FG-36?
Merci & Keep your stick on the ice... eh
Marvin
I will wait for the Gears. Here in Europe the Retract: Spitfire Mk IX (EFLG625SP) retails for 350.00 EUR.... (492.00 CAN) EH!!!

The FG40 will fit into the cowl but mounting the engine from the inside of the firewall would require major rework such as removing the fuel tank floor, servo mounting tray, cutting them shorter in length etc. The FG40 could be mounted similar to what I have done with the FG36, and you would only have to make a shroud to cover the top hatch 6mm gap.
The space on the left side between the engine mount beam and the inside of the cowl is 25mm. The right side measured from the engine mount beam is 35mm.
I have not completed full installation yet, I still have the ignition module, refuel valve, engine fibre optic kill switch and 3 batteries to install before I know how much dead weight has to be added to achieve recommended CG.
When I purchased the E-flite retracts I paid a total of $419.00cdn including tax, eh.

Exactly. The Mustang ones actually include a programming box so you can test them, setup sequencing doors, tail wheel etc.
The box that comes with the Spitfire retracts has an input for a separate pack, that if its hooked up draws power from that instead of the rx pack.
Everything including the machined and working oleo struts, and control box is included, you install the retracts and plug in a lead to your RX and you're done.

On the same photos, the fifth one, we can see that the scissors link at the bottom of the landing strut is facing forward. Is there a reason?
I think that they shall be facing aft. Not that I am an specialist but most scissorslink at the bottom of the landing strut are facing aft.
Thanks for the input about the overpriced retract. At that price they do have to bebuggless… I will wait untill i start assembling before making my mind. HobbyKing, Lado & Sierragiant seems to have an alternatives. Still the E-Flight assembly made for the Spitfire would be the logical choice. I am just quizzed about the price….
Do you know about other alternatives?

Hi Roger,
I see the pictures of the fire wall from the differentthreads as I surf for info. The FWD firewall Box is fairly easy cut and shortenby 2.5 cm. Yes it involve some work…( and make sure it is there to stay…)
Whenever you do your CG please let us know. Reading the treads most people add between 14to 16 oz ( 14 ounce = 396.9 g) The weight difference between an EVO 33 and an FG-36 is +361 gram = 12.73 oz. Since your power plant is +/- 2.5 cm forward I think that you will be very close to the sweet spot, slightlynose heavy for the first flights. (weight data from manufacturer).
Personally I prefer to active weight than dead weight.
EVO 33GX = 1384g
FG-36B = 1745g
FG-40 = 1715g

Marvin; good day eh!
BarricudaHockey will answer something like this; the scissors pointing forward are correct for scale look, the full size Spitfire has forward facing scissors.
Yes I will post the amount of dead weight that needs to be added to achieve CG on my Spitfire.

About the lead.....Getting ours to the factory CG took a fair amount of lead. Based on flight testing, over a pound of that lead came out to get to what I felt was a comfortable CG. By that I mean, pull a 45 degree downwind upline, roll it on its back and see what happens. On 3D planes I prefer they go straight, but on warbirds I prefer they pull slightly, but not alarmingly to the nose.
