I thought I would give an update on my efforts since the thread has gone quite for a while. I have been working on my Bud Nosen P-47 for the last couple of weeks.
The G-62 is very close to the front of the cowl and the builder use the stock muffler which was too close to the plastic nose ring on the cowl. He had cut a fairly large
hole in the front of the cowl below the muffler pipes to dump the exhaust. The exhaust really just dumps inside of the cowl and never really makes it outside. The pipes
being close to the nose ring started to cause the nose ring to soften after a while.

I decided to see if I could do something different; a friend gave me a Jtec inverted pitts muffler which moves the can behind the head (Huge improvement). However I
wanted the pipes to exit close where the cowl meets the fire wall so it is a little less noticeable. So I am in the process of making up some short extensions to get the pipes where
I want them. The inside diameter of the muffler pipes and my extensions are the same so there is no restrictions there.

The builder left out some noticeable details which I will add to the plane as time goes on... like the intercooler doors on the sides of the fuse. Move the wheel wells inboard to their
scale location and extend the gear struts so she stands at a more normal height and attitude. I will change the cowl to one that is more scale in shape and appearance and add
a dummy radial and chin cowl divider for the turbo super charger. I will also add a few more details to this... once done it will be very respectable as a stand off scale plane.

In the meantime I will enjoy flying this jug...it is a thrill a minute to fly her and I am very happy I was able to purchase her last year.

What I'd like to do is shorten the exhaust stack make a collector that sits under the motor
Box and flex stacks that go thru the fire wall and exit the Fuse where the Waste Gates are
supposed to be. That's when I get "ROUND TUIT".

Man I need to get one of these GS jugs. We had our annual warbird meet yesterday and a bunch of guys came down from up north , all with a GS P-47. They put on quite a show for us tearing up the sky with as many as four at a time. There were two TF's and two H9's. I have a GS F4U on the back burner, but really made me want a jug. I have the 60 size but not the same. Man, that was cool.

I have used a cheep Zingger 20 x 10 also have a Falcon 20 x 10 a Top Flight 22 x 10-6
and an Old out of production APC 19 x 14 that I had used on a G-62 in an older heavy
Extra 260. Wish I could tell U more but I don't Fly it enough to give a good cratieck of
how well any one prop preforms over the others. Sorry

Hi Steve,

I was one of those guys from up north. We had a good time. We'll be back next year if you have the Warbird event again. We'll even bring something other that P-47's. Come on up to Woodstock July 26 to see a repeat performance.

I figured one of you guys would chime in here. That was great. Glad you came. That was only our second year doing it, and it was better than last. Hopefully every year gets better. It was obvious you guys fly together all the time. Right on point with each other. Makes me REALLY want a GS jug. Thanks. I'll try to make it to your event, and it will definately be going on next year, so now your expected. Hope you realize that. Ha ha.

Almost nothing better than a warbird gaggle. A couple of years ago we had 7 warbirds up at one time at Woodstock. I've been fortunate enough to participate in the Warbirds Over Delaware noontime show. Usually there's somewhere around 10-12 warbirds in that gaggle. That really gets your blood pumping. Hope to see you around.

Somewhat off topic, but after many instances of air leaks with the Robart "Tees" I started using these:

Me too, til I landed gear up with a Tarheel Hal. Traced the leak to the "T's" and replaced them. I have had no leaks since. Thought I'd pass the idea along.

Are you talking about the plastic Robart tees or the brass ones? I have used the brass ones with keepers for years without issue.

I was referring to the plastic when discussing leaks. I have used the Robart brass T's, but for the price of 2, you can buy almost 10 from HK.

I would now like to be added to the brotherhood after purchasing a Top Flite GS P-47 from a flying buddy of mine. He built it a couple years ago and I have put every flight on it. He finally decided to sell it and I jumped on it. Thanks. Also, does anyone have a spare canopy laying around for the Tarheel Hal version? I am more than willing to pay for it if anyone has one to sell.

Jason tell ya what I have 2 new in the package Canopies With the blue trim. I also have one unpainted with a frame to make it a sliding canopy with a lot of work of course. Ok guys, don't laugh at my little P47. It's only 54.5" but at least it was designed by Nick Ziroli (in 1968!). It's an old Champion/Davey Systems kit with an optional fiberglass cowl. Aluminum Solartex covered, Saito .65, HK electric retracts/oleos, Robart mini retract tail wheel on a small servo slowed down with the trans to match the mains. Full flaps also slowed w/trans. All other colors are painted w/Klass Kote including insignias. Weighs in at 7.1lbs, flies great and easily at half throttle. Landings with half flaps are great. Haven't used full flaps yet as it was maiden this past Sat. Will be getting lots of airbrush details like panel lines, gun streaks, radial engine, etc now that I know it flies so well. Not really good scale outlines but a fun flyer just the same. It is modeled after an actual jug that flew in the pacific theater.

Why would anyone laugh? Looks like an impressive project to me! Plus, it takes a lot of skill to put in that much detail and keep the weight at 7 pounds, Good work.

Chistech, no one is going to laugh. I don't care what kind of plane you fly or how big it is. As long as you are happy with it and enjoy flying it, that's what matters. Don't get into the habit or belong to a hobby where you feel like you have to impress others. Be in it for you and get what you want out of it. I think it's a pretty sharp looking P-47. Besides, there maybe guys that all they can afford is a smaller electric P-47 from a Hobby King or Banana Hobby. Doesn't matter or shouldn't matter as long as they are in to it and have fun doing it.

I was pretty much kidding and don't worry about what people think. The reason I said not to laugh is these days most guys are going with the large CARF's, 1/4's, 1/5's etc and it's just really small compared to those. I don't worry what people think. I enjoy building and doing the builds the way I like. Some do think I'm a little crazy and go a little overboard with some of the details/painting but it make me happy! LOL I personally like the smaller planes that are easy to transport and I also like finding, buying, and building these old school kits. I also still prefer glow power over everything else. The old kits flew well with marginal power and they now can be built lighter with better equipment than when they were designed. I've got many more of these kits to build all around the .50 size. Royals, Jemco's, Tettras, Marutaka's, Skyshark, etc. and they all will get scaled out treatments.
