I recently purchased a vinyl cutting machine, since I need to practice using it anyway I decided to see if I could dress up my very plain looking aluminum gear doors with some tiny flush rivets.
Since this was my first attempt at this no one is allowed to laugh....lol

I also added some lettering to the side of the fuse as well... not perfect but not too terrible for a first attempt IMHO.

Nothing to laugh at there. Looks good. And I'm sure it will get better. It will pay for itself in no time if you build a lot.

That looks great. How about some scale size bullet holes. Say a string of 6 or so, that could applied to wings, fuse, etc.
and if you can get really good, some 2 to 3 inch graphics that look like the inner area of a wing after a 20mm cannon punches a hole.
i'd buy them!

A friend of mine's father flew P-47 in the WW2. My buddy said that his dad always said that the pilots would have their pictures taken with the Mustangs, but much preferred to take the Jug into combat.

Was it difficult to remove the original covering? What process did you use?

I posted pics of my P-47 on another thread and someone suggested I post here. None of my patients decided to hang out with me this afternoon, so I have the time. Comp ARF P-47, built by a gentleman in the UK named Graham Buchanan. I am the second owner, it had not flown or been set up when I bought it.

Still ironing out the kinks with the moki, but it has a few flights on it and its a lot of fun to look at. I could never duplicate the detail on this plane, truly stunning job. Even though the kit had rivet detail, Graham went back over all of them…50,000 of them… I'm fine tuning the pitch on the solo prop now.

Hi tciranni,

Not difficult at all, just lift the covering at one end with the tip of a No-11 blade and pull it off, comes off clean and easy.

It would be cool to get both of ours in the air at the same time Gary! My buddy and I fly our FW 190's together all the time. Makes flying a warbird tolerable. ;-)

Sure would Mike. There was a CARF P-47 that I flew with as well. They looked good together.

Well, here's the almost completed fuse on my YA P-47. Not turning out too shabby (at least for my abilities). Still need to add rear view mirror, gunsight in the cockpit, antenna mast & wire. Graphics from "Callie Graphics" she does such a first rate job. G-62 up front, all Hitec 635 and 645MG servos. This is a strange YA though as the wing is a full composite, not the standard foam cores. Still a lot of work to go before the "For Sale" ad pops up on RCU.

Happy Flying!
