Did the maiden of the Topflite giant P-47 finally!!!!!! Did it at the wenatchee Huckfest in front of at least 200 people, so I was nervous but it flew awesome I was so confident, and it really rolls of the ground on take off so nicely! Maiden flight about 5 minutes into the flight I did a low pass and it went dead stick. I found out all the gas seeped out the vent line, and the tank that came with the plane is junk, it cracked in half and spilt all over the outside of the plane. So I replaced it with a fortitude 16oz tank, much better tank.
Day after the maiden me and Ken from Performance Aircraft Unlimited put on a noon time Demo at Huckfest with a formation flight. He flew his Topflite Giant P-51, and I flew the P-47. We did a formation take off and flew with each other side by side most of the time. Ken pulled off a low pass inverted, about 10 feet off the ground, and so I decided to do a low inverted high speed pass, well I was about 2-3 feet off the deck with full throttle!!! The whole crowd that watched the flight went nuts!! Unfortunately nobody had a video or even a picture of that. Then I did a low knife edge pass about the same distance off the ground as the inverted pass, and I had a throw down of people yelling and screaming it was so awesome !
Then I heard a guys say "is that P-47 smoking?" And I did a low pass again to see and it was smoking bad. I landed, and turned it off down the runway and ran out there, and sure enough the front of the cowl was actually burnt black. So I took the prop off and I looked and the prop chewed up the cowl, and actually caught fire. The reason it chewed up the cowl is because the little wood mounts for the cowl, that plate at the top you screw the cowl into? Yea it was completely off the mount bracket itself. Those are weak weak brackets, I recommend using epoxy or ca to help strengthen those brackets. Otherwise it flew so awesome and I love doing formation flying!! Here are some pictures, I'll post some of the cowl and the prop after.

Congrats lancairmustang,!!
I still have a lot to go before my maiden, cowling and canopy needs to be paint, decals and panel lines next step; just can´t wait to get it on the air.

Thanks Mike, and yea I know! I need retracts! But I just broke the bank on a new plane. Email me and I'll show you some pictures! And thanks everyone, it was awesome. And everyone enjoyed my flight Lifer, I didn't see anyone who complained or even cared.

I'm also a CD.
I had several pilots make inspection/ airworthy flights when I ran pylon races for new and repaired models in the morning. I had a contestant's wing fold up on a first flight of a new model. We found out after the crash he didn't properly glass the center section. I was glad I had the 500' spacing between pits and the flight line as it snapped on the number one pylon heading back to line. Safety first, ego's second.

Most folks probably did not have any idea it was a test flight or they may have complained / cared. I can assure you if something had gone wrong there would have been lots of people who cared, both at the show and at AMA headquarters. You might want to take into consideration what others are trying to tell you here. Safety before egos as noted by Ed above, good advice.

I didn't know that was a part of the rules, and yes I did announce to everyone that was there that it was a maiden/test flight. Didn't know that was part of the "rules" but I made it clear over the microphone that it was a test flight.

Check here I've gone through the first ten sets. Do U have the Tail/Serial number? That helps.
http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/f/350/3/9
Is that a flying or static prop?

My 2 cents worth on this subject!
Brothers,
It does sound like Trevor understands the Academy of Model Aeronautics National Model Aircraft Safety Code, Effective January 1, 2014, section 3a states:
3. Model aircraft will not be flown in AMA sanctioned events, air shows or model demonstrations unless:
(a) The aircraft, control system and pilot skills have successfully demonstrated all maneuvers intended or anticipated prior to the specific event.
I am sure that is was just an oversight on his part as very few people read the AMA Safety rules (does not excuse it....just fact); however the CD should have not allowed the flight to occur during the published event hours. He should have offered Trevor an opportunity to perform his maiden flight prior to the event start time which would have complied with the safety rules and still allowed him to participate if his plane proved flight worthy and safe.
Now... back to discussing those awesome P-47s

Top Flite P-47 kit build
Please add me the role of p-47 brothers.
I have a top flite giant scale. It was maddened about a month ago and has 15 flights on it now.
Zenoah g-45, Robart landing gear, xoar 19x10 prop @7400 rpm.
it weights in at 25lbs, and flys amazing.
Best pilot by Lyle Vasser, stencils by just stencils, rivets and detail vinyl by Mirce.
It has bomb drops, working canopy.
This was a kit build that took 10 months to finish.

Had the airbrush out a week or two ago and got to work with some details. Have two warbird events the next couple of weekends. Like I said, not too scale but it's an old kit and some recognize it and can't believe there's one still out there.
