Update on my Tarheel TF giant P-47,

houndog lended me me some robart electric retracts, but the problem was they were for the hangar 9 p-47, not the topflite so they mounted in wrong. The tail wheel was the same so it fit right in, but my dad and I are modifying the wing for the mains. We cut out some of the balsa and the fiberglass, made a template out of paper, and now have to go find some aluminum for mounting in the retracts. So it's not impossible and can be done!!
Cheers,
trevor

Can you rotate the struts so the scissors point to the front?

Should be able to swap the left gear with the right to get the Scissors to the front.
Trev;
don't for get to mark these Electrical plugs so U don't reverse them. they are the old Robart Gear and will burn out if they are pluged in back words. ACE Hardware carrys Alumimim sheet but make sure U back of the Alumimim with hard wood (Maple ext) mounts or the first landing will be a disaster. Good luck with the project & have fun this summer with the JUG.

p.s. are those the wheels that came with the gear or the planes originals?

Yah I figured out which gear goes where, haven't burned out and they work good! We got aluminum, different thicknesses of it, and we were gonna stick them together. My dad has a good idea, and he's quite smart seems to have a good idea of what to do. It's gonna work I'm confident... I mounted the tail wheel in myself yesterday and it retracts nicely.
Hound dog, those wheels that are on the retracts now we're the ones that came with the retracts.

Gentlemen, ( I use that term loosely)

I emailed a request to Tower ( Hobbico) about the availability of the New TF P47 Razoraback, here is their reply:

Christopher,
Thanks for your interest in our Top Flite model. The Razorback is scheduled for release in June. Pre-orders are usually available within 2-3 weeks before release so check with your local dealer to get one of the first arrivals.

Thanks from your Hobbico Airplane Team

The 754.86 was based on the exchange rate at the time. I expect that the price will be similar to the P-47 bubble top, Zero, FW ect.

Chris:
What do U think the Physical differences will/are between the older Tar Heel ARF and Kits.... other than the canopy/razor back that is. People have Kit bashed them into Razor Backs. Not Barging but I have 2 of the TarHeel ARF's one with a G-62 the other is getting a DLE-55 when I get "Round TO IT" The other has been recovered with a candy stripe tail and the Insignia of a squadron that flew out of Northern Italy in 44-45

Thunderbolt builders. Made these videos on making the unique P-47 inter-cooler doors operate. Might give you some ideas.

I am always trying to improve what I do to make things more scale looking. I really don't like to see switches, air valves, charging jacks, etc. in the open. So, hatches are a common thing on my planes, just as all the full scale had. However, getting them hinged, holding them shut, and then being able to easily get them open is always a key accomplishment. Here is a video on what I have recently come up with to get those hatches open and closed.

I don't know, ARFS tend to be lighter than kits. I have both Kit and ARF TF Mustangs. The Arf's are faster, the kits are sturdier. I like to kit bash, and scale out arfs. Building from scratch is a bit tedious for me. But a can spend 100 hours researching plane/pilot histories and honoring them with a copy of their plane, that is more important to me than speed.

Clever mechanisms Gary. Thank you for sharing. I think i will use your switch cover hatch idea on a Ziroli Hellcat i am building. I have been on the fence to have the canopy slide open but this helps with that decision making.

Glad to help Steve. Here are some more pictures of the main hatch on that plane, with the same method used. Also is a picture of the instrument panel with marks where the push button releases will be.
