The factory muffler will clear if you rotate the cylinder to the 7 o'clock position. Add a silicone coupler from a Mac's Products tuned pipe and you'll get pretty quiet. The J-Tech mufflers cost $120 and are louder than this setup.

This might give you an idea of the tone, at least if not a sense of how loud:

Most clubs in Australia now have noise limits, only some big plane events on private gifted land escape the wrath of the council.

My P-47 with Saito FA325R5 goes 97.9 db but because of its ear friendly note they allow it but most clubs wont allow a DLE55 without a canister muffler, must admit those suckers are loud but nothing compared to a Desert Aircraft 85cc with a wrap around, ear bleed territory!

Enjoy your freedoms boys

Cheers Bk

The noise thing can cripple a club/ hobbiest. My main club we have no restrictions with a gun club as our knegbor noise is not an issue, the other club I fly at closer to where I live they hassle me all the time and wine that I hurt there ears, bunch of pillon racers that don't like gas but the safety officer is my buddy and he tested my DLE55 and I was well under the limit, so I always do a high speed low pas when they are watching and taking DB readings on there smart phones so they can piss and mone at a club meeting

Default Jambock at your service!

Good evening gentlemen.

I'm Brasilian, aeromodelist, plastic modelist, with a few decades of plans to help me tell lies ( ) much more a builder than a pilot.

As a Brasilian I have the deepest afection for the P 47 Thunderbolt, our 1ºGAvCa (First Fighter Squadron - 'Senta a Pua') warhorse, thus being my main theme both in aero and plastic models.

Right now I'm building a Macchi Mc 202 (Dennis Bryant plans), and gearing up to start building a 92" Thunderbolt from Ziroli plans.
Hope to learn and share a lot with you.
Sugestions, questions and constructive criticism is always welcome.

Blue skies for all!

Tiffoso

PS: "Jambock" was the brasilian 1ºGAVCa callsign in WW2...

TKS, Lifer. I'm glad to be part of the Community! Just be generous with my poor english!

Here one shot of my Hangar 9 P-47 Thunderbolt, striped of it's original finishing, with some sort of 'brasilian' colors. No, its not perfetc (far from it) but stands out in the field just thesame.
Power is a Zenoah G 20i (I love it!!!), control by Airtronics SD-06G.

Don't worry about it not being perfect, I can't offer "perfect" either. It's a sharp looking plane. I'm not familiar with the national insignia on the wing. Is that your country's markings?

Check this out at the Lake Land R/C field On Oconomowoc airport 0WI8 there is a new housing aera less that 2000 feet from our center flight station. 3 years ago when the new land lord cut down all the balsa eating trees to our south and east we thought it was great. Now because they are punting in this new housing area we might have to go all electric. But the real problem as I see it will be the Full scale Planes departing to the south. They have always for the last 12 years departed the pattern to the south east to avoid the sub division to the south. know U just know the first house built will be some old lady that's says she didn't know that F'en air port was there. Chances are that the air port's been there longer than she been alive ... First used in 1929 800' long.
Copy and paste this 43.137552, -88.471969 into Google earth or Google maps and draw a line from the middle flight station ae @162 degrees That's THE NW CORNER OF THE NEW housing AREA. ... All THE AREA FROM THE ROADS ALL AROUND US WAS 10' CORN WE LOST 30 OR 40 PLANES ALL SUMMER FOUND ALL BUT 3. THE COMBINE FOUND THEM. Not much about my P-47 except I'll have to get rid of a G-62 DLE 55 and another 50 cc gas motors and go big Electric ... That ain't gona happen.

Here's the first landing of my "TARHEEL HAL" TF GS P-47 w/ G-62

Here's the URL to the video ... Sorry about the Shaking but I was Nervise even though our best pilot was flying the Maiden

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBU6sgJvhSw .

Some one was wondering about mufflers this is mine not very effective though. I'm thinking of adding some form of collector inside the cowl MAYBE Some day
.
Modified Muffler Exhaust Pipe out the bottom of the cowl..
What to cut off Exaust pipe and ad some
sort of canister to bottom of of engine box
and run flex pipe from it out the Waste Gates.
Some Day when I get
"ROUND TO IT"

I've read all the comments about noise regulations/issues.

My concern is that in pursuit of a quieter engine one ends up with a not so reliable one. Messing around with mufflers, settings and the like can realy degrade an engine stability, you know that!

So, I sure will NOT bother some ugly faces in the field, as long as I'm in the legal noise limits and my engine's running strong.

Junt my thoughts on the matter.

Blue skies to all!

Not so some places here in the USA if a Neighbor (COMPLAINS) *****es for any reason we could loose our field real quick ... Model engines can be quite if one spends some money ... The Manufactures have to design in room for Cans Mufflers like they have started too in Larger IMAC planes and the Like. 4 Storks have the same DB rating but the Freq is different not so chain saw ear piercing sound ... Then there is always ELECTRIC ... Can't wait for the next generation of LYPO or what ever that have half the weight and twice the power available. We can only hope.

Welcome Tiffoso, your knowledge of the Brazilian P-47 will get considerable interest here.

About the noise guys its not all bad, I have many aircraft that sneak in right on 96db that are reliable and still have a presence in the air.

My thoughts are 2 stroke gassers sound so much sweeter with a canister muffler than a wrap around.

Obviously this is not a P47, it is my P40B with a 4 stroke Saito, the exhausts are hand made live exhausts, it sounds so sweet and comes in at 210.3 kph and is under 96db (95.7)

Hey fellas any room for another.....

This is my converted Top Flite Tarheel Hal converted to a razorback P47. It has a DA85 with a 24/14 prop, Hitec 5645's on the surfaces and 654's running the rest, smoke system and robart scale wheel. She's gotta a lot of miles on her now but she runs like a bull in the ring.....

WoW !!! A DS85 in a 50cc air frame. Mine has a G-62 but that's only 4.8 HP. I thought a DLE 55 was a lot of motor for that air frame... Have U ever clocked the razorback with a Radar gun or GPS telemetry. Like to know it's actual Air/ground speed.
A friend of mine has a Ziroli 92" P-47 Thunderbolt w/ a Zenoah gt 80 twin. I took a small plastic bomb and put a HiTech Aurora 9 receiver & batt, GPS and air Speed set up and hung it on one of his release equipped Pylons. I could see his ground Speed and his Air Speed on my Radio side by side. Very interesting how they very with the planes attitude. One very interesting thing was how fast the air speed dropped off in a climb after a flat out high speed low level run .
OH the Ground speed Varied from around 114 to 120 Mph while Air speed maxed out at around 114 mph. That's a lot bigger and more drag heavier plane too. Be very interesting to see what yours actually does in the speed category.

I've never flown off grass... Clearance isn't an issue. I was turning a 26x10 before switching. It didn't have any problems with that either.

ive yet to try telemetry on the plane. I will say that it's very impressive to see this thing fly. I'm always one to overpower my birds. If the engine fits its going in lol! I also have an ESM corsair with a DLE111 with a 26x12 that's even faster, louder and more impressive to see....
