I'm third owner of this plane. Years ago you could buy it as ARC. After my buddy broke the wing, he bought new one from ARF, and stripped covering from it,

Hello everybody. I have a NIB BYRON P-51, with gear. This is for direct drive and it's the new two piece wing. Before I tossed it up for sale to the world of RCU I thought I would let the 51 group know first. 800 + shipping.

Need some advise. Where do you measure the cg from on the P51 wing? Leading edge at the wing root? The leading edge moves significantly rearwards as you shift outwards from the wing root.

If you have the TopFlite Giant scale P 51 measure back 4 9/16 inches from the dog leg break in the leading edge.

If you have the Hanger 9 P 51, the recommended Center of Gravity (C.G.) location for
the P-51 1.50 is 6 and
3/8" behind the leading edge of the
wing measured at the fuselage sides. If necessary, move
the battery pack or add weight to either the nose or the
tail until the correct balance is achieved. Stick-on weights
are available at your local hobby shop and work well for
this purpose.

Default P-51 14 Year Project

I finally made some progress with my 14 year project.

I completed the Following:

All new High Voltage digital servos have been installed
The updated receiver has been installed
The Cockpit layout has been started
The Electronics Tray Layout has been completed
The engine is mounted and cooling for the inline cylinders has been designed
The Mains have been overhauled, installed and tested using all new jettronic electronic valves

Needs final plumbing and wiring harnesses made but its getting close.

Since it has finally gotten warmer I am able to get back to my Modeltech Mustang ARF. The instructions call for a .46 engine, but after talking to someone who had this plane before, I am going with an Evolution .61nx. I just put in the servos last weekend so now I'm ready to put in the fuel tank and engine. I hope to post pictures of the completed plane on here in the next few weeks.

Hey guys! Nothing "new", still working on the D to B conversion, but I think I've found a pilot for my T/F P-51D ARF 60 bashed into P-51B. He's a little big but I think he's going to make a nice looking pilot, certainly better than the little guy included with the kit. Here is a comparison...

I can confirm that He passed in January. The last I knew his wife was thinking that they would not continue the business.

Default Some progress some setbacks

I got the 3W P-51 connected with lights on, gear down & locked and the engine started, however I can't get the inline 120cc dialed in. I am going to try again tomorrow after some changes. The motor is not reaching peak regardless the needle settings so I am changing to a different ignition battery and using a velocity stack to calm airflow.

Attached is a video of the first run, it never gets better and never holds an idle regardless the needle positions and actually sounds like the ignition dies on the rear Cylinder. During the first runs I could see fuel siphoning out from the carburetor so the velocity stack should help stop that and I am using a NiCad 4.8v battery and bypassing the regulated 7.4 Lypo.

I will test again tomorrow when the neighborhood is empty. I have been working on this for over 10 years in which time I ended up throwing out all the original electronics and started over from scratch, twice. Any suggestions for tuning this engine are welcomed.
This brief videos tells the story of the engine start:

I had better luck with the engine today, but ended up running into an entirely different issue now with ignition interference.

The brief video shows the engine as I dialed it in but it is still rich by choice on the high end. I got 50oz of fuel through it today.

However I found another issue with the Ignition sending signals back down the line and you can see the flap jumping in the last segment. It only happens on start up or when the RPM drops too low and you can hear one of the cylinders cutting out at the same time.

Just when I though I made progress another challenge appears.
