BTW I managed to cram 14.8 volts into each boom, cleaned it up and now waiting for that same open weekend to try it out.

Has anyone had an update on the JB P-38? If

Did somebody say P-38? How the heck did I miss this?
Well to have the GG avatar you better have some P-38 blood in you. It would be an honor to join such a group.
I've had more then a few, from Guillows to GWS to NitroPlanes to VQ. My VQ was done up as a semi copy of the one off "Super Strafer" Lockheed variant. If you think facing four 50's and a 20mm was bad, try going up against TWELVE 50's! Eight in the nose, and a pair each in the wing pods.

I have made some progress over the last week or so on my 1/4 scale P-38. Making the canopy and landing gear have been on the to do list. I have progress on both fronts. The canopy basic form is done and fiber glassed. I made it a little small, allowing room for final shaping with Bondo. I should be getting started on that process over the next couple of weeks, hoping to get it ready to pull a canopy by the end of the year. The gear is coming along as well. I have done some of the initial CAD work and it all appears to be working. I will need to do the mounting points for some of the parts but the general motion is sound. I am including pictures of the progress and one of the P-38 on its nose, WITH the wings. Hope you enjoy!

I too would like to join the P-38 Lighting Brotherhood. Great idea. I am late, and hope it is still alive and well. I have an Old Royal P-38 kit and bought it from my buddy Bob Rosenlof. He lost the leading edge and root ribs. I found plans on EBay and they arrived years ago as one gigantic role but they are full size planes and have the ribs and everything on the planes. I would like to convert it to more scale and build the engine nacelles to cover the engines. A lot of mods to make it scale. Also, would like to find some cowlings that would work and also a better canopy. A project I plan to build in retirement. I know, what is that?

Rusty, the retracts look great. Is that a direct drive for the steering?

We put a test meter on it before the first flight and the 10x10 props show pulling 48 amps static, the motors are rated to 42 amps. I know it unloads a little in the air but next flight I am going to try 10x8 props to see if I still like the performance and if we can get it within specs on the motors. The other reason is because I have 10x8 pusher props so I can also set up counter rotating props and maybe control some of that torque on rollout.
Here is a quick video of the Maiden

70 ragtop,
Yes, that is a Yellow P-38 in the back ground that I completed in Aluminum back when it wasn't popular to do, some 14 years ago! I had an engine out on take off a couple of years ago and damaged the nose and wings when it contacted the ground. I have striped the Al on the nose and have a new set of wings. I will be fixing it, but this new P-38 has jumped ahead of all my other projects.

Big T glad you could come out. Club Prez says you can fly twice as my guest without AMA. Sorry I did not investigate that when you were there. Bring the 38 back and we will try to get some video for posting here.

Looks great, and it looks like there will be two large P-38's flying next year. Just finishing up the cowls for mine, I'll be starting on the gear soon.
