Hey 70 Ragtop
By chance do you have any other nose art versions of your plane documented?
Im really liking the bare metal yellow nose and invasion stripes but I dont want to "copy" your plane. Mine is already in bare metal Im just down to final decisions on the scheme.
Also who did the stencils for you or was that you?

Looks good Big Tee
That 2nd crash is the plane I just rebuilt!
Tony
I fly at Wiltonbury, how about you?
Chris
Placement sheet is perfect, except I can't read it. Do you have a larger version?? I looked on line, and didn't see anyone with that set in stock.
My plane is 20th FW 55FS. Believe the 77th and 79 all have yellow spinners and cowl fronts, but don't hold me to that. They were all based at Kings Cliff Northamptonshire England. The 55th had the triangle on the tail, the other two were a circle and a square. Lots of cool schemes Cali Cutie, Gentle Annie, Mamas Boy, Lucky Lady, Fast Jacks Go Bunny are some well know ones.
It was a toss up between Go Bunny, Lucky Lady, and Wrangler fpr me. I wanted to keep it simple and went with Wrangler.
Search the squadrons, and lots of stuff comes up, but unfortunately, a bunch is on flicker. I can't seem to figure out how to download pictures from flicker. Mine is ready to go except for prop change. It's sitting in the corner, waiting for blades
Here's a few that I have, good luck with your search

Click on the pic once and it will open in the pop-up-ish window that isn't really readable. Then double click it again and it will open a larger version in a new tab. Then you can magnify it and it's readable. That's on a PC with Chrome...

Thats the only version I have, maybe try what pilotbum suggested on Chrome or just on a PC with Windows 7. Did you try printing it because maybe its clear once printed.
Did you use Aeroloft for dry transfers?
I was looking at their site today and they have some good schemes for a large variety of planes. I would prefer water decals to dry transfers or better yet stencils I could use to airbrush with. Their rivets are nice too.
Nice Bug and Cat in your collection!!

I've watched that video a couple times and when they carried the wreckage back to the trailer, spread it all out and talked about it, there was little chance it was going anywhere but to the landfill. Knowing that was the plane puts a more personal spin on the project and even more WOW in your rebuild. You absolutely turned the impossible into the possible.

Getting the engines smoothed out and more comfortable with the flaps (reason for the long landing)

Making progress on my 1/4 scale P-38, maybe not a quickly as i would like but steady. I have make a new canopy mold and pulled some parts. I need to pull a actual canopy yet but getting there. The servos are all installed, as well as the initial engine engine installation. I removed the right hand motor off to test run, you can see the inline DA100 here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zb6-jj0aW6A
Such a smooth running motor, typical DA!!
I still haven't ordered the parts for my gear, but hope to soon.

I too am seeking a nomenclature cheat sheet. Like 70 ragtop said, what you posted Chris is perfect but too small to read. I wonder if there is a higher resolution file out there of that guide?
Here's my Legend Models P-38. Have a ways to go with the detail but it's starting to shape up.

Found a new decal set, with placement sheets in France. As long as they actually show up, will scan and post when I get them. My plane is a combo of paint and transfers from Aeroloft. All I will say is they are half the cost of Promark, and you get what you pay for. Depends on what you plan to do I guess. A good looking plane to take to the field or events, no problem. Building with the intention of competing, I would go Promark. I think next time I am going to go with Callie masks, but still need those small transfers.
For prop decals, gear strut placards, ect you've got to check out Decal-it, REALLY nice and super cheap. I'll snap some pictures of some of his stuff and post. He also does custom decals and masks

That thing is huge! Looks great, going to sound pretty awesome with those two big twins sync'd up

Welcome to the "brotherhood"...lol. Not a lot of action here, hope that will change

A they say Buy nice or buy twice!
I hear you. I had the best results from laser cut masks and airbrushing them on. It's possible to cut 1/8 scale letters but its not easy. The P-38 would be slightly better. Not sure I can get this done soon enough. Im thinking Aeroloft for rivets and screws and basic nomenclature. We can find nose art later.
What do you think?
Decal it looks good too!

I used Chad Viech's rivets and showed a bunch of pictures in the RCG thread. Little bit of a learning curve, but I like them. I think they would be incredible on a painted plane once some age and weathering is added. Since ours are both bare metal finish, they are still pretty nice, just a little bit more of a learning curve.
I tried them over the paint, and under the paint on the wings. What I didn't like with them over the paint was you could see the side of the rivet in the sun. Once I weathered it, that edge darkened up, so it not noticeable, and actually looks pretty good. With them under the silver, I was unable to really work the paint to add "grain" and hand "buff" it to get that aluminum sheet look without damaging the rivets.
Now on the painted parts (black, white, olive drab) where the rivet was applied, then painted with no hand work required, they are awesome. Apply rivet, spray on color, and age/weather it. The rivet will bleed thru, easy to simulate dings and chips too, especially on the cowls .
For some reason, I have to resize pictures to post of RCU, but there is lots of pix posted on RCG http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...274813&page=14

That is fantastic Rvander. Well done. I am putting up the P-38 that simply can't be built. Haha. Many of you know the story behind it. Turns out the guy who wanted to build it here in Tulsa has been diagnosed with some kidney issues and he couldn't out the time and effort into it.
So so it is for sale yet again. Perfectly new. Last year the cowlings, canopy, and wings were destroyed in an accident (Separate from the body) and we got all new replacements before Yellow quit selling them. Body of the plane has been perfect as it was not a part of the accident. This needs a good home to ascent builder. The covering has been started and it is pretty sharp.
