Looks great, well done!

Send it this way, I'll build it for you. I wanted to see what you did with your sound system. Are the gear in that picture what it comes with it?? I was originally thinking the Florida builder just set those in place for the picture, now I'm wondering if that's what it actually comes with??
Really none of my business, but I would think Swordsn should at least have first right of refusal....

Received nomenclature decals from France as promised. They are 1/48 scale, and my scanner only does 600DPI, so the scans are a little hard to read. Between the nomenclature sheet, and the placement guide, I think its enough to figure out where things go. Hope some of you guys find these useful

Cool! Thanks for the graphics info.
Second maiden today, now in paint.
So! Please take it from me; do not build fly then take apart paint and then re-assemble and fly a plane, its a long road and it sucks!!! Causes plenty of issues with paint and finish. I knew this but I didnt want to risk a fully finished plane like this one. Next time, just finish it, fly it, what happens, happens.
Flew today with the new engine updated to clockwise rotation. Its a trip to start, pilots right engine turns CCW and the left is CW. So flipping by hand means turning the props to the outside.
On the runway as power comes up it tracks very straight making it easy but this plane likes to head into the wind. Crosswind take offs means it will be sensitive and try to weathervane a bit.
I took it up and let it run. We had variable high winds but this plane handles the wind very well. I did learn it takes quite a bit of cross control with rudder and aileron. I played up high in the wind for a bit with rudder turns. Some zooming passes with the wind and into the wind and then a few rolls. I made a fast pass low then up at a 45 on power into the wind and it just climbed out very fast. So cool, roll over the top nice and slow.
Landing was easy too. One circuit gear down and into the wind and it slows way down quickly without flaps. It touched down with a little flare no dramas. The struts with their long travel are awesome. Love how the plane settles.
Im very pleased with how its come together.

Congrats!
P.S. Warbirds are never done anyway, even when you say your done something will dig at you until you modify it.
The older mine get the better the compliments on weathering

3rd, 4th and 5th flights done today.
We were scheduled to appear at the NW Scale Masters Qualifier just for fun to show the plane to our club buddies. When I got there I was told your signed up, heres your packet and your flight plan is done, go fly your up at the end of the round!! What!?!
So I made a lunch time check flight then right into a scoring flight. The last two flights were the first times I ever used the flaps! The lunch flight was the first time I looped it!
Well it went well, I scored 90.75 on the first scored flight. The second landing I got a little behind it just before touching down and the left gear snapped the steel pin that joins the strut to the trunion. Luckily there wasn't any damage but a chipped prop. It slowed up faster than I expected.
Otherwise all went well and its settling into being more routine. We settled on a scheme too, Robin Olds Scatt II

So History Buffs, here is an interesting question about Olds P-38.
Which scheme is correct?
Some say the all bare metal invasion stripes scheme is correct. Some say the olive drab and invasion stripes scheme is correct. Still some others say the bare metal invasion stripe scheme with red rudders is correct.
I can see how the last version could be true since the 434th squadron had red rudders on their planes like P-51's, one of his other Scats.
Id like to see documentation of the bare metal version with stripes AND red rudders. I dont like the look of the big basic geometric shapes on the tails.
Then theres the color of the Scat II letters, red or yellow? Ive seen both.

Seems to be a tough one, not a lot of photos. I read he had three P-38s, and one article said he had 4. Seems to be some pictures of Scat IV being a Mustang, so not too sure about that. Only flew Lightnings for a few months before switching to Mustangs
It seems the first Scat was likely OD with strips and red rudders, but lots of artist renderings show that as Scat II. Actual picture of Scat II shows bare metal, but just shows the nose. Seems to be a lot of artist renderings, and decals. The artists must have gotten guidance from somewhere. Must be a few pictures out there, just a little hard to find.
Of coarse, if you end up not finding any proof either way, pick the one you like, and no one can prove you wrong Can also search for pictures of planes in same squadron. Might help with tail markings and strips. Little Friends is a pretty good site http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/479thfg.php
Here is some interesting reading http://www.crazyhorseap.be/Mustangs/...RobinOlds1.htm

Good luck

That photo of him standing next to the bare metal nose was the one sited by the guy who created the sim skin I posted above.
I also found a photo of one of the Scat 38's destroyed in an accident after take off flown by another pilot.
Thanks for the links I'll check it out
update: according to Little Friends site Olds had 3 P-38's and 3 Mustangs but the nose art skipped past Scat 4. So theres Scat 1,2,3,5,6,7.
Thats interesting, wonder why that is?
Pretty sweet squadron patch, apparently a beer copied it for their label too.

Hi Chris!
I have an engineering type question. I'm still not understanding the relationship between Kv, volts, rpm and thrust.
I get Kv being rpm per volt.
For my question, let's use Eflite 90/325's. Assuming correctly sized props, which will give more power/thrust:
8s with a smaller prop/higher rpm or 6s and a larger prop/lower rpm? Or am I still completely off the trail?
Thanks in advance!

Some good info on Robin as well as his paint schemes for both the Lightning and Mustang here: http://www.crazyhorseap.be/Mustangs/...VII/PH-VDF.htm
I'm sorry 70... I missed this in your post!

Prior to the photo above, I'd only seen Scat II in OD.
