I think these sierra struts are designed and shaped around the more rounded robart 5" rubber tires. These dubro tires just aren't going to work correctly the way they are shaped. I would have to grind on the struts to get the wheel closer to the struts so I can get the tires all the way into the wheel wells and have the struts straight while extended. Right now the tires are hanging out a little and the struts are toed in slightly. Trying to get ahold of Darrell to see if I can swap the tires out.

Update on the gear covers, I contacted hobby services and told them about the issue with the pre drilled holes. They are going to order a few wings and inspect them. I told them they would be better off if they weren't drilled at all. I see why they did it to make it easier for the builder but if they are drilled wrong or wood shrinks or whatever happened then it makes a mess trying to fix it. It wont be a hard fix by any means, but if they can correct the problem it will make modelers happier down the road. Now if TF would listen and make a small hatch on these planes for switches and fill valves it would be awesome.

Gotcha, I'm still going to swap the tires out as I think it will make the fit better. If I have to grind the struts, so be it. Its metal, can blend and polish and wont be able to tell anyways. Thanks for the heads up about the tires.

That's why I'm going to switch tires and grind the fork a little bit. Also going to see if I can get some custom one piece doors made for it. If I can't get them made I will just go without doors.. If I can get them made I will let you know and see if you would like a set as well

One way to do the door is to run the axle out through the wheel and drill and tap it for a 4-40 screw and build a bracket for the top mount. If you look at the real one the door is attached with a bolt into the end of the axle. The door have enough curve in them that they should clear some narrower tires. Don

Looks like you will have severe vibration with the loose engine mount bolts, lol just kidding. Looking good!!! I'm off this weekend so looking forward to putting a serious effort into my build. I sent my wheels back to sierra to get the robart tires put on but I will build up the fuselage and finish the wing later.

What is the difference in the tires?

They just have a more round shape and I'll be able to get them closer to the struts and deeper in the wheel wells. I'm also going to grind my struts for more clearance. That way doors will fit and I can get the struts closer to 90 degrees while extended before I drill them for the roll pins.

Mine were pretty close but I wanted them a little bit better. I will post the pics after I get my wheels and tires back from sierra and get the gear set where I want. This is how mine was set, pretty close to 90 degrees but not quite. I had big plans of getting a lot of building done this weekend but haven't touched it yet.

Hey- new guy here. This Zero is going to be my first large scale warbird, and first ARF. Im super excited but reading all of these posts makes me feel a little overwhelmed. Im sure it will all go smoothly once I start to get into the swing of things. I have not ordered the plane yet due to $$$ but I was able to pick up some Robart wheels and a very nice Pilot to fill the cockpit. I guess its a start! I hope to build it week by week, so once I get her, i'll take pictures and document my first arf build. It's going to be bad! haha. I'm going to read over this thread a few more times, and get some good ideas and tips. Any advice is greatly appreciated for a newbie like me.
(Note: I know how to fly so don't panic, i've just never had anything this size before. )
EDIT: I tried to take a picture of my Pilot I got from warbirdpilots down in the Toledo swap shop but the quality is pretty poor, once I start getting into the build and stuff I'll be posting more pictures.
