In my opinion you can learn a lot about a planes' handling characteristics by watch YouTube videos. Observe it's takeoffs and how fast the landings are, etc. FWIW.

As it goes for all warbirds really. I'll keep this in mind when I go to maiden her. The pilot was pretty expensive, but I think totally worth it! It was the last one in the scale and he won't make anymore, all he has left are uniforms and they go for 250 dollars, I got really lucky and picked up the pilot and uniform for 100 even. I think it was a steal so I got it when I could. Im excited to see what he looks like inside the cockpit.

Yeah, I agree and I find it helpful too. I think i've seen every video there is to see on this thing so far so I got a good idea of what it will be like. Im excited!

I completed the maiden flight on Fri.The flight went well except that it required about 10 clicks of down elev., that's a lot.I balanced it by the book.I have balanced all my big warbirds this way with good results. When trimmed it flew great, but when I landed with that much down elev.trimmed in it wanted to nose over, but I was able to get on the elev.and hold her. On my next take off I was not as quick and the prop caught, broke and she flipped over breaking the canopy. Chime in guys what do you thing?Anyone one else flying this model?

I will guess that if you feel your balance is correct .. you MIGHT need a small amount of down thrust...under power you are keeping it from climbing with the elevator. On approach to landing as your motor slows and quits lifting (offsetting the elevator) as much.. the over/down trimmed elevator is dropping the nose hard.

Just my opinion.

Check the glide with minimal power. If it dives, you need to put a couple of washers behind the top standoffs.

I always balance my Top Flite planes a lot more nose heavy than TF recommends and yeah its a balancing act on takeoff but when its flying my elevator trim is very close to neutral. They lock in a groove much better as well being nose heavy. On landing as soon as my mains touch I retract the flaps and the tail drops right down.

Jay how close are you to flying? I only used about 20 percent of flaps on the first flight. I may need to do the same

I'm a long ways off from flying but I promise you it will be better nose heavy than it is neutral. The last time I balanced my P47 with a DLE85 it was almost falling off the balance stand and flew on rails lol.

When I maidened the P47 at the factory neutral balance it flew ok but it didnt fly on rails like it does nose heavy. If you put more nose weight in it you will be able to take the down trim out of it.

Well, I may be the bad boy here, but I balance all my Top Flite giants at the most rearward recommended point in the manual. I fly at the recommended low rates all the time and only use high rate elevator to taxi. The planes are hands-off neutral, don't nose-over, and land feather soft.

Fire away!

To each his own I guess. You will just have to play with the CG until you get it how you like it. How do you like the Sierras

I also love them a bit on the nose heavy side like jaync posted , and what foodstick and lifer posted about washers and downthrust might be an easy thing to try before adding weight, although I have had to add some weight and move the cg farther forward also to get the same dreaded downtrim out , I recently went through a similiar situation after swapping a 55 out for a 61 on a mustang , needed more downtrim and then the second time out I had a prop strike on take off roll out , added some washers and was able to take the down trim out, guess the 61 had a bit stronger pull, just my two cents,
good luck with her and keep us posted as many are interested in how these zeros are gonna do

GOODNESS SHES HUGE!! <3 Just came in this morning, super excited. Spent the last 3 hours with the iron taking out wrinkles. Now I need a rag to wipe off all the drool. Can't wait to start putting her together... now time to buy servos, then retracts next week. Super excited.

Just a little side note.. Zeros are famous for needing lead to balance. My friend that was in charge of getting the Zeros ready for the Byron show the last few years said that once they were together you STARTED with about 3 pounds of lead to balance it. !!!!

you won't need to add much if any because TF has built in 2 steel bars at the factory. It all depends on the engine that's used. I used a DLE55 w/Slimeline pitts muff. and only had to move the battery to the trailing edge of wing for bal. Mine seems to be tail heavy.Still trying to figure it out. Received a new canopy from JAYNC,I will re-bal and retry.

Not the M3 model 22 span isn't right. Closest is the M5 of the first 100 produced. Or you could just add the exhaust pipes and make it right

This is the model 22, the side profile looks pretty close. The A6M5 looks to have a shorter tail and a wider cowl, and the guns are completely covered. This is really stumping me for some reason, im surprised they don't really let you know.

I might just make mine the model 22, I want to start putting panel lines on her this week so I can start building. Way to big to do that stuff once the wings are glued together.
