Hi Bruce... I blew up the plans for 85inch... waiting for calls back from two cutters - specifically for help in updating the wood and joints. I want to have this ready for TopGun but that may be a long shot... I'll have a build thread so folks will have a place to make fun of me during the build... haha

That should be a good size what engine are you thinking about running?
Let us know about the cutter when you get your kit; no body will be laughing at you I think you'll do a great job, quite sure you'll be the only type 24 this size at Top Gun if not the only one.

Good luck w / the build, where will you post the build log?

Bruce

it'll be built around a DLE55RA. quite possibly the easiest, most reliable, 3 flips to start, engine I've ever seen... Desert Aircraft DA50R, maybe, but I'd have to buy a wrap around muffler (JTec is expensive) also sitting on a shelf...

The build log will be here on RCU.. I'll have a link as soon as it starts...

Frank's building from plans; having them enlarged and laser cut, a bit more involved than a kit.

I can't wait to see this build,

Bruce

This thread makes me laugh every time I read it. My end of the hobby is fiberglass fuselages and foam core wing short kits built as stand off scale warbirds. I am a little careful in preserving my planes and under power them. But as a child, the neighborhood kids and I would throw our lawn darts straight up over our heads to see how far we could get them to stick in the ground.

I would like to join if my resume warrants membership.

Frank, for what it is worth, I believe this fine gentleman should be granted membership, however had they caught the lawn darts rather than idly standing watching them hit the ground, Brian would a definite! :-)

Cheers

Frank, saw one of the tee shirts you had made. Ethan Marsh, seems to be a friend to us both. He had one at a lunch gathering we had yesterday. Pretty cool. Okay, I should have asked him how to go about getting one. Do I have to join your brotherhood? If I do would you please put me on that large list of us soon to be scrap, almost scale brotherhood. Then can I get one? Hey great group of guys you have here. Kind of nice to have a good and fun forum coming from the O.C. Hope to see my name on the list. Thanks, Danny, OCRCDUDE

ok.. I'm getting ready to go fly tomorrow. I had to pull Cole's former 70lbs Corsair out of the rafters to pull the Spectrum rcvr out for a pickup from Rick Marshall making the long trek to SoCal for his 400lbs gorilla (oh.. I mean NA T6 or more appropriately - Harvard) and what's left of the TF GS Zero.. I left the motor and starter in the airframe but now I don't have enough planes in my garage now...

I've been working on the Clark Spitfire getting it ready for a trade... Pretty excited...

On the bright side, I have a shiny new set of sierra retracts and wheels for the top flite gs zero which my buddy rick marshal is bringing back this weekend and Paul Sheffield can add it to the hangar of airplanes I have over there..it will be at winter warbirds for sure.

Paul also has a pretty awesome H9 spitfire going together for me for gunnsmoke. And my H9 corsair is soon to hit the bench for glass...lots going on here!!

Cole.. It's was absolutely a perfect day @ OCMA.. Ethan brought out his Tarheel Hal, I had my Wulf and my capture Jug... Shaun Roblee had a pair of Corsairs... Brian Young brought the big Zero and the LA7... Tim Cardin had his Jug...

Warbird heaven... blue skies with some white puffs to help give an impression of speed... nobody had any major issues...

all last summer my CMP Messerschmitt 109 was grounded due to excessive vibration from the spinner. I’ve purchased the dubro balancer and it got the back plate ballence so I get smooth running all the way to full tilt, but add the bell and its not pretty. The problem is the dubro does not hold the spinner bell tight. We spent the entire night, 2 hr, trying different setups with stuff I had in the shop. No joy!

I know I could fly it w/o the spinner. My son says that all the time. But a Messerschmitt w/o the spinner is = to a heavy sport plane with flaps.

So tonight I will use the get a bigger hammer method. Look for the longest #10 screw I can find at lowes with a unthreaded shank using the threaded end on the spinner and the unthreaded end on the balancer. I figure I’m looking for unobtainium. And will end up pressing it on to a hollow tube.

Any suggestions?

Joe
