The original TF P-39 & the TF gold edition P-39 are two different animals. It's like comparing apples to oranges. The red box builds old school with lots of balsa blocks to be shaped and no information on the plans for installing retracts or flaps. It's also smaller than the gold edtion. If you have built a few planes it's not a hard build though, and it flies good. I've built 2 of them in the past. I bought the gold edtion when it first came out. It's still in the box. I've looked at the plans & instruction manual. Judging from that, I would say the gold edition will be much easier to build.

Red Box is not nearly as scale as the Gold Edition. R/B has sheet wood tail surfaces, G/E has built up, and there are several other differences.

Please add me to the brotherhood, I have a TF P-39 and have built and flown a Sureflite and a Global one also. I also have plugs for all of the TF P-39 parts including the wing fillets, cowl, guns. I could help with parts if anyone needs them.

I have an ESM P-39 that appears to be permanently attached to my workbench, however I really do think it will fly one day :-) After I complete it and the modifications, panel lines, paint.... maybe next month

Might I please join this illustrious gathering of aficionados?

Thanks and Cheers

Default P39 Airacobra

I would love to join the brotherhood. In my opinion the Airacobra's story is the best of all warbirds, though she is not as famous as a Mustang, Thunderbolt, or TigerShark.

I have built and flown the following kits:
1. Topflite Redbox P-39
2. Topflite Yellowbox P-39
3. Topflite Golden Anniversary P-39
4. ESM P-39

The last one I've flown was the Topflight Golden Anniversary P-39, which I themed after "Mr.Mennen". The plane has a great background story, and originally started out as a TP-39 / or Two Place Trainer 39. Some day, I would like to kit bash something and create a "TwoPlace trainer P-39". I need to get better vacuum forming skills to create the 2 seater canopy that is needed. I've never seen an rc model of a TP-39 anywhere. Here is some info on my Mr.Mennen build: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1498477

No canopy available, framed up and glazed with sheet plastic. The gear I have were custom made by Dave Platt long ago. Robart has a stock nose gear that will work, and the Robart 1/5 T-6 gear turned around, with wheel mounts for larger wheels are perfect. See the http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rc-w...ng-thread.html post #24 for the details.

Sierra Precision has a beautiful nose gear for the ESM P-39 which should work nicely with the Pepino design I would think.

Started making the changes to plans, and patterns for my electric Pepino 1/5 build today. Gonna place an order for wood sometime next couple weeks. decided to cut my own kit instead of ordering a short kit due to changes for electric.

I haven't compared prices, but since Lone Star burned down, I have used Balsa USA. Every order has been quick, and right.

I just ordered wood for the two P-39s being built here. Went with Balsa Wood Inc. AK Models: http://www.balsawoodinc.com/

Prices beat the others, some by half. Check it out. Ordered it and received in just a few days. Opened it up today and the wood looks great.
