Does anyone have a idea where I can get a Nose Cone for my Top Flite P39 1/7 scale?

FrankRC1,

If your kit is a Gold Edition, I am making a complete fiberglass/epoxy nose section, together with gear doors.

I can make in any color or just in primer.

Just let me know if you are interested or need more info.

This is a great idea. We must get together someday and have a Kobrushka fly in. Mine's a Pepino, built from his plans. Tail number 33, 31st Pursuit Group, Selfridge Field, Michigan, 1942
Turnigy G-160 on 12s. It honks.

Mustang Fever,

Where did you get the canopy and cowl for the Pepino plans?

The canopy on the plane I got from Troy Built Models, and I have a spare that was made by Park Flyer Plastics, using the ESM canopy as a guide for a plug. I'll probably have to put the spare on someday, as the ESM one is so flimsy all I have to do is look at it wrong and it cracks. It's not absolutely necessary to have a molded canopy, tho, as the plans show how to make the panels from sheet plastic.

The cowl I built from the plans. Jim provided a drawing of the cowl sections on the plans, so it wasn't too hard to do. I just divided them in half on the centerline (top and bottom), took a quarter inch off at the centerline, and built two halves on 1/8 crutches, then joined them later.

I'd like to join the P-39 brotherhood. I love the Airacobra and Airobonita. I own a TF P-39, and I have an EZ Models P-39. I also have a 98 inch P-39 with a fiberglass fuse and foam core wings that I hope to get to someday.

Default Need new idea for aileron control

Yes, Hang'in out is probably the best thing until someone updates the roster.

I would like to add it to my list of groups as well.

I can't believe its been so long since someone posted in this thread, the holidays really must slow us down

The bell crank system on my P-39 driving the aileron has slop in it and I fear flutter will be the result.

What is a good in-wing solution for aileron?

With a small amount of slop I would normally just say (keep the speed slow and go).

But this is allot of slop and this plane is worth a long term solution to maintain the scale look and enhance performance.

Anyone have any ideas? The videos show the amount of free movement.

David,

You may consider Rotary Drive System for your ailerons.

If set-up correctly it is slop free and fully concealed in the wing. However you would need a relatively heavy modification to your ailerons in order to place the pockets in.

Make hatches in the wing for both ailerons, and set up a conventional control system for both, with external horns and pushrods. Scale at the expense of reliability is a bad bargain, in my estimation. That airplane is not airworthy.

Paging through the classifieds, I found this: http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/ite...itemId=1022914

Top Flite 60 size P-39 kit NIB. Kinda pricey $300, but he's including a cockpit kit and it's the Gold Edition.

Thanks for letting me in the club.

Here is a link to a video of my "Staged" P-39 crash at a Phoenix airshow in 06.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z6lmg-bZ00

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z6lmg-bZ00 This is the Staged Airshow Dogfight at the One Eighth Air Force RC Show in Arizona - A giant scale German Captured P-39 Airacobra is sighted and an American P-47 Jug will be scrambled to shoot it down for the show center violent crash!!!

The P-39 was pulled from the junk heap and was suffering from structural failures. A series of irreversible structural modifications to make it airworthy were made for this last flight and I repainted the plane the night before with Krylon and Rustoleum spray paints to simulate Russian and German Captured markings..

The airshow safety team required the impact/crash location to be "beyond" the small dirt berm parallel to the runway and the impact was inverted to minimize damage to the landing gear as they were the only re-usable items. (Even though they did not work on this flight). Don't worry the airplane was not a quality detailed model. It was a fun kit and quick build model that had seen its flying days come to an end. The used electronics and engine had exceeded their usable life span and rather than just the trash can or back yard bon fire, the model was used to provide a little afternoon fun for a couple of hundred people and a fun project for the Boy Scouts to do a miniature crash investigation.

This was my 2nd P-39 and I should complete work on my 3rd (acquired) "Daisy Mae" almost 9 years later this summer.

There are no plans to ever crash this one
